A MIGHTY WIND
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together
in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound
like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house
where they were sitting. Acts 2. 1-2

Sisters and brothers in Christ:
Because Easter Sunday came late this year, we enter the month of June and early summer
with our celebration of Pentecost the gift of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the church. We also
rejoice in welcoming our newest church members and our Confirmation class. Our youth have been
studying with their mentors for several months and have prepared and presented their own
personal Statements of Faith. Please be with us on Pentecost Sunday, June 8, to welcome them and
to celebrate with our Pentecost Tea following worship.
Before his Ascension, Jesus had promised that he would not leave us alone, but promised us
the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name, the Spirit that will teach you everything
and remind you of all I have said to you. The Holy Spirit is sent to abide with us and in us. The
Sunday after Pentecost is celebrated by the church as Trinity Sunday, the day we worship and give
thanks for the Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Now, in our lives of faith, we recognize
again that in the action of God, all is in place Father, Son and Spirit for us to live fully and abun-
dantly as members of Gods eternal kingdom.
Liturgically speaking, the season after Pentecost begins the season of green. From now until
Christ the King Sunday in November, we as the church are in ordinary time, that part of the
church year where individually and as a congregation our primary focus is on growing together in
love and faith. We have been reminded again of the full revelation of God Father, Son and Holy
Spirit love, grace and communion creator, redeemer and sustainer - the God who was and is, and
is to be. This is the season for faith building and community building for building bridges, new
and old for connecting with God and one another for practicing simple acts of human kindness
for loving and honoring God and each other for reaching out with open arms to all of Gods good
creation.
Filled with the Spirit, may we reach out to one another and the world in faith and love and,
as always, may God continue to bless us, everyone!

Your Pastor and Friend,

Clark R. Kerr

We will never forget the kindness and outpouring of
concern our fellow members gave to Hode and me during
his illness. Each day an uplifting card or note arriving tell-
ing us others cared, one can feel alone at times of illness.
The food, all the Caring Christians cards and just knowing
support was there got us through tough times. Our church is certainly a family,
we consider LPC one of our greatest treasures.

Thanks be to God,
Hode & Jean

Many thanks go to Jan Mills, who mentored
Rachel and David Auman, who mentored
Daniel.

We will also welcome John Gamble, Bob and
Betty Flowers, and Dana Rizzo as new mem-

We hope you will join us for the Pentecost Tea

The Ivey Ringers
First Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, North Carolina

On Wednesday, June 18
th
at 7:30 pm please join us in welcoming the Ivey Ringers as they present a
hand bell concert at Unity Chapel. The concert will be a little less than an hour with no intermission.
The concert is free and open to the congregation, friends and neighbors. Those who enjoy hand bells
and/or an evening of music will appreciate the event.

The group is made up of 10 auditioned ringers from the Charlotte area. When Bob Ivey retired from
First Presbyterian, the group was named after him in his honor. The new Director, Trevor Cook, is
happy to include us in the groups North Eastern tour this summer. We are one of several churches
that will host the group for an evening concert.

Due to the construction at our Main Street church facility, it is necessary to host the group at Unity.
Please make note of the concert and do invite a friend or a neighbor to come with you on June 18
th
at
Unity Chapel.

If you have any questions, please contact Mike Long at the church office or email him at: music

"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack,
I don't care if I never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don't win it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,
At the old ball game
