Lesson Aims:
To introduce job-related vocabulary
To enrich students vocabulary connected to work environment
To encourage students to guess the meaning of new vocabulary from contextual clues
To develop speaking micro-skills
Objectives: by the end of the lesson Ss will be able to:
Use the vocabulary related to jobs and careers in sentences of their own
Use the topic related vocabulary in order to find out information from their peers
Express opinions on the topic

Techniques: conversation, dialogues, pair work
Types of interaction: frontal, pair work
Assumptions: the topic will raise the students' interest.

Activity 1 Presenting the core of
the topic vocabulary
T writes three headings on the blackboard (Getting a job, Working, Leaving/losing a job),
each one corresponding to a column and asks Ss to give as many words and phrases as they
know related to the three sections (e.g. application, full-time job, period of notice, etc.)

Activity 2 Controlled practice T asks students to do exercises 1 and 2 in their worksheets so that the vocabulary presented
in the previous stage could be practiced. Teachers role: controller

Activity 3 Presenting additional
vocabulary
T asks students to brainstorm for skills and qualities related to jobs in general and elicits the
skills related to the teacher profession (students use the information from exercise 3 in their
worksheet). Ss use the model to describe the skills required in other jobs.

Activity 5 Pair work T introduces the activity Guess my job by questions. One member of each pair of students
is given the name of a job they should interview the other person for. Without telling their
partner what job they are being interviewed for, they should ask suitable questions for that
job. Their partner can answer with true answers or their imagination, as they wish.
