Consideration of a resolution approving the use of one of the City's five
free-use days of the Sunset Center Theater by Youth Music Monterey
County on November 9, 2014.
Recommendation: Adopt a resolution approving the use of one of the City's five free-use
days of the Sunset Center Theater by Youth Music Monterey County on
November 9, 2014.
Executive Summary: The Carmel-by-the-Sea community has a long history of encouraging and
fostering youth participation in the arts.
Youth Music Monterey County is requesting one of the City's free use
days for one of the three concerts that the Junior Youth and Honors
Orchestra performs each year at the Sunset Center Theater.
The Junior Youth and Honors Orchestras provide students throughout
Monterey County an opportunity to supplement their school and private
music studies with high-caliber ensemble playing experience. This
experience helps them develop knowledge of symphonic literature, as
well as technical and artistic skill.
Analysis/Discussion: Youth Music Monterey County depends upon concert attendance,
personal donations, business donations and sponsorships, grants and
volunteers for continued support. By providing the organization with the
opportunity to utilize one of the free use days, Youth Music Monterey
County will recognize a savings in facility use fees. This savings can then
be applied to support the organization in its mission to inspire excellence
in students and enrich the community by providing young people with
opportunities to participate in and gain greater understanding of music
and its performance.

The 2013 Agreement between the City and Sunset Cultural Center Inc.
(SCC) provides that the City shall have the right to use the Theater and
lobby for up to five full days each fiscal year without charge provided that
the City may not use any space committed to rental customers by SCC.

RESOLUTION NO. 2014-
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-BY-
THE-SEA AUTHORIZING THE USE OF ONE OF THE CITY'S FIVE FREE-USE
DAYS OF THE SUNSET CENTER THEATER BY YOUTH MUSIC MONTEREY
COUNTY ON NOVEMBER 9, 2014.
WHEREAS, the 2013 Agreement between the City and Sunset Center Cultural Inc.
provides that the City shall have the right to use the Theater and lobby for up to five full days
each fiscal year without charge; and
WHEREAS, Youth Music Monterey County is a non-profit organization which has
requested one free use day on November 9, 2014; and
WHEREAS, the purpose ofthe free use day requested by Youth Music Monterey County
is for one of its three yearly concerts.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA does hereby:
1. Approve one free use day of the Sunset Center Theater November 9, 2014 as
described in the Agreement between the City and the Sunset Center Cultural, Inc.
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARMEL-
BY-THE-SEA this 1st day of July 2014 by the following vote:
