PARISH MESSENGER

PARDON ME

Be praised my Lord,
For those who grant
pardon
For love of you
And endure inrmity
and tribulation
(Cornelia 1985)
Francis knew pardon.
At Franciss worst times
Christ was in best form,
granting pardon. And
during our worst times,
Chr i st i s wi t h t he
downcast , and t he
out cast , f or Chr i st
became the outcast.
Christ came to us to be
human. Di stance i s
erased. Differences are
erased. The frown of
God is gone. Curtains
are torn two. Partitions
are abolished. Gods
rainbow shouts one
will: Pardon. Pardon
me is a Biblical word.
All is changed now
because Christ hung
on the unpardonable
shape, the cross.
Life can go on without
our perishing. We can
submit to tribulation.
We can climb Calvary.
We can carry the cross.
There is in us life and
love of Christ. It is in all
and around us. Love
goes before and after.
The greatest of all we
possess is love. We are
born into love; it is
stronger than all else.
Love converts water
into wine, an acorn into
a l u mb e r y a r d , a
convict into a disciple,
a thief into a friend, a
stumbling block into a
cornerstone.
Forgive our sins as we
forgive,
You taught us, Lord, to
pray:
But you al one can
grant us grace
To live the word we say
Lor d, cl eanse t he
depths within our souls
And bid resentment
cease
Then, bound to all in
bonds of love
Our lives will spread
your peace.
F o r t h e
commandments .are
summed up i n thi s
sentence, You shall
love your neighbour as
yourself (Rom 13:9)
May our good God
bless you all,
With prayerful regards,
Mothy Achen

FAMILY CAMP 2014 - The second National family
Camp for all Australia took place in Melbourne from April 25th to 27th, during the Anzac day
week end. It was a unique opportunity to meet families and Achens from different Marthoma
parishes and congregations, in Australia. There were migrants who came in as early as
the seventies, [when Australia started welcoming migrants] and later; some people came
directly from India and others worked elsewhere and then landed here.
The site , called Camp Jungai [means meeting place in indigenous language] 2 hrs drive to
the North East of Melbourne, on 120 hectacres of land, a combination of hills ,valleys and
lakes in the Rubicon valley , was ideal for the activities of the camp. It reminded us of the
beautiful North Eastern Regions of India, where we worked long time. The layout of the
campus, car parks conference halls dining area and play ground down below and the
living quarters on top of the hill , was a challenge for the elderly; [walking up and down the
slopes and steps and sleeping on the bunk beds]; however we got special care and
consideration and so we could participate in all programmes . It was already winter in
Melbourne with lower temperatures and rain.
Camp leaders, Rt. Rev. Euyakim Mar Coorilos Episcopa and Father Jacob Kavunkal, SVD
of the Divine Word Ministries, [a learned Catholic Theologian] and our achens, C.Thomas
[Melbourne city] Anson Thomas[Melbourne Emmanuel and Adelaide] Mathews A. Mathews
[Sydney Bethel and Canberra] Biju George[ Brisbane], M.K.Jacob [retired, on a visit to Aus]
looked after the Spiritual aspects of the 3 day camp.
Day one started with lunch at 12.30 noon and the opening worship followed by introduction
of the theme CALLED TO BE A FAMILY WITH GOD TRASFORMING LIVES AND
COMMUNITIES. Group discussions followed the sessions each day which made it
possible for every one, young and old, men and women, priests and laymen to express their
concepts , understanding and practices of the issues and questions posed, in a Biblical
background. [ There were separate sessions for children conducted simultaneously ]
On Sunday morning Holy Qurbana was celebrated by Thirumeni, assisted by six achens.
We were seeing such a scene in Ausrtalia for the rst time, gave us an idea about the fast
growth of the Marthoma church in different parts of Austalia, if one can compare it with the
seven churches established by St.Paul in Asia .
The other interesting programmes were a talk on Health issues[ Dr.Samuel Varghese, a
Cardiologist from Melbourne Parish] and Voice of the sevikas where challenges of
young mothers combining home making and a profession were discussed. The
introductions, Variety entertainment on talent night, Bush walk , games were a lot of fun
as all folk participated and appreciated. It was lively and colourful. We Thank the camp
committee who took lot of trouble to organise this camp, in a remote place. There were
about 180 altogether.
To us , the Kuruvillas and Johns it gave plenty of time to renew old friendships, to nd out
long lost relatives and to make new friends with fellow believers in the Eastern States.
We hope the next year camp in Newzeland will have more participants from Perth
Marthoma.
May God Bless our Church in Australia.
