Rizal had a universal view on humanity and freedom.

I was impressed by the following two lines: 1)

"Unless we first learn self-respect, we will not be respected by any other peoples." 2) After having death
sentence, his counsel says he is ashamed as a Spanish. Rizal says, "No, we are the same human beings."
He was not a perfect man, nor his ideas. But he left something everlasting, that Filipinos can be proud
of.

The movie Jose Rizal is a great interpretation of the Philippines's tragic history. I believe it got all its facts
right. It also shows patriotism and heroism in a peaceful way. It also is an accurate and colorful
biography of Jose Rizal's full life. It is also rather confusing to watch because there were too many
flashbacks and you won't know if he was still in Spain or what. If you are a person who is easily
confused, do not watch this movie because all you would be confuse by these flashbacks. Of course, if
you can cope with the weird scene-cuttings, well, there isn't a problem with watching it at all.

I felt bittersweet emotions, a mixture of joy and sorrow. I was inspired to Rizal, I couldnt imagine that a
kind person like him had existed, sacrificing his own life and happiness just to spare time for the
salvation of his injured nation. Will there be another Rizal? I am asking myself. It is hard to believe that
there could be a modern day Rizal, or if there is, at least he will not be as fearless as the national hero.
There are also some scenes wherein it's very inappropriate for young children such as the nude and bed
scene in the first part. I believe that the fact that Jose Rizal did had a love affair with his cousin should
not have been shown in the movie because it gives Jose Rizal a new and bad light after he kissed Leanor
Rivera, his cousin. Maybe they could have showed that Jose Rizal did have a love affair with his cousin in
a more custom way, but it should not have been portrayed in a sexual way. This would completely
disgrace Filipino culture because our culture is very conservative and traditional, and kissing in a clinic is
very far from what I would say conservativeness of the Filipinos
In my opinion, the movie is not boring. It doesnt even have dead parts. At first I thought that this 3-hour
story which I knew already will cradle me to bed and let me fall asleep. But as I watch the movie I
realized that I really need to finish it. It was compelling. The wars and commotions contributed as the
climax of the story and the conversational parts which most people find tedious are actually energetic
ones .The plot of the movie was logically arranged and the props and costumes touched the 1800s and
1900s. I found art when the film also incorporate parts the Novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo
to instill in our mind that these writings reflect the injustices in the Philippines. Highlights in Jose Rizals
life were given sufficient focus.
I was expecting to see some accounts about Rizal like his escapades and important travels in Europe,
Asia and North America. I also anticipated important characters like the generous Maximo Viola,
Ferdinand Blumentrit and the renowned scientists of Europe because they play important roles in
Rizals life. Of course, I was also waiting for the women of Rizal like Consuelo Ortiga Y Perez, Nelly
Boustead, O-Sei-San and Getrude Beckett but unfortunately they were excluded. Although , I dont
think these were a lack in the movie because in general, Jose Rizal was still successfully made. For those
who are searching for a movie with a twist, It is worth watching.
