BYLAWS
Article I Name
The name of this organization shall be the American Institute of Aeronautics and
Astronautics Student Branch (herein, AIAA-s) at the ni!ersit" of #alifornia, San $iego
(herein, #S$)%
Article II Responsibilities of the Administrative Executive Board
Section A& #hair'erson
The #hair'erson is the head manager of the AIAA-s board and acts as a liaison bet(een
the student branch and 'rofessional relations, including AIAA San $iego Branch and
the )acobs School of *ngineering% The res'onsibilities of the #hair'erson include but
are not limited to& 'residing o!er all meetings, a''ointing members to 'ositions not
customaril" elected, re'resenting #S$ and AIAA at meetings and functions,
attending section meetings of the 'rofessional AIAA, managing and su''orting all roles
of the administrati!e board, and enhancing AIAA-s throughout #S$ and the greater
San $iego area% The #hair'erson is also re+uired to 'ublish (ee,l" ne(sletters and
necessar" u'dates, and then to ma,e a!ailable to AIAA-s members%
Section B& -ice #hair'erson
The -ice #hair'erson is the assistant to the #hair'erson and acts as a liaison bet(een
the student branch and uni!ersit" relations, including the Triton *ngineering Student
#ouncil (T*S#)% The res'onsibilities of the -ice #hair'ersons include but are not
limited to& facilitating communication bet(een AIAA-s and cam'us organization,
re'resenting AIAA-s at all T*S# e!ents, re'orting to both organizations relati!e
information and e!ent u'dates, 'ro!iding necessar" reser!ations and resources for
board meetings and AIAA-s e!ents, and su''orting the #hair'erson in his.her duties% In
the tem'orar" absence of the #hair'erson, the -ice #hair'erson (ill assume the
#hair'erson/s duties%
Section #& Secretar"
The res'onsibilities of the Secretar" include but are not limited to& attending and
recording the ha''enings at each *0ecuti!e Board 1eeting and 2eneral Bod" 1eeting,
managing the email list ser!er, and maintaining current information on the AIAA-s
(ebsite% The secretar" is also res'onsible for organizing information of AIAA-s
members and e!ent 'artici'ants, (hich is to include but is not limited to AIAA national
membershi' status%
Section $& Treasurer
The res'onsibilities of the Treasurer include but are not limited to& maintaining and
re'orting on the current finances of AIAA-s, de'ositing monies 'a"able to AIAA-s,
dis'ersal of funds, and 're'aring an initial budget and end of "ear re'ort% The Treasurer
is also res'onsible for raising mone", through s'onsorshi' or 'rofitable e!ents%
Section *& 3ro4ect 1anager(s)
The res'onsibilities of the 3ro4ect 1anager(s) include but are not limited to& continuing
the success of the acti!e 'ro4ect and u'dating AIAA-s on the 'ro4ect/s status% In
addition, the" must (rite and maintain a 'ro4ect 'lan and budget, a''ro!ed b" 'ro4ect/s
facult" ad!isor% A 3ro4ect 1anager is re+uired to 'reser!e the sustainabilit" of the
'ro4ect for future "ears through team recruitment, 'ro4ect member training, and.or other
means%
Section 5& 3rogram #oordinator(s)
A 3rogram #oordinator is res'onsible for the organization, 'ublicit", and
im'lementation of AIAA-s e!ents and acti!ities, (hich includes but is not limited to&
tours, 'resentations, seminars, con!entions, T*S# e!ents, communit" ser!ice, and
social e!ents% 3rogram #oordinators are res'onsible for organizing a minimum of one
(6) 'rogram 'er academic +uarter% Additional 3rogram #oordinator 'ositions ma" be
formed and dissol!ed according to the needs of AIAA-s%
Article III Project Managers
Section A& Acti!e 3ro4ects
An acti!e 'ro4ect is one that had a 'roducti!e 're!ious "ear, (hich includes but is not
limited to 'artici'ation in a com'etition, or an e!ent generating results% In addition, the
'ro4ect must be financiall" inde'endent from AIAA-s%
Section B& 5oundation 3ro4ects
A foundation 'ro4ect is a ne(l" started 'ro4ect% It is su''orted b" AIAA-s (hile
building a team, obtain funding, and 'erforming% When a foundation 'ro4ect meets the
re+uirements described abo!e to become an acti!e 'ro4ect, the *0ecuti!e Board (ill
!ote% A sim'le ma4orit" (ill u'grade the status of a foundation 'ro4ect to an acti!e
'ro4ect%
Section #& 3ro4ect 1anager Selection
The selection of 3ro4ect 1anager of each acti!e 'ro4ect (ill be done b" the 're!ious
team, and then sub4ected to the a''ro!al of the 'ro4ect/s facult" ad!isor%
Article I !sage of AIAA funds
Section A& Budget
6) A budget shall be 're'ared and 'resented to the *0ecuti!e Board for a !ote of
a''ro!al no later than Wee, 7 of fall +uarter%
8) The a''ro!ed budget shall be submitted to the facult" ad!isor%
Section B& *nd of Year 9e'ort
A end-of-"ear financial re'ort must be com'leted and 'resented to the *0ecuti!e Board
and 5acult" Ad!isor no later than t(o (ee,s after the com'letion of s'ring +uarter%
