Jumpstart Phonics Learning System. Torrance, CA: Knowledge Adventure, 1995.

D. Kleven (Parent Council Volume 6)
This title is filled with fun activities intended to teach all of the basic skills to prepare kids for school. Parents are meant
to be involved with the use of this CD-ROM. Start by giving children an assessment test so you can adjust the levels of
difficulty to suit them. Children will love exploring the schoolhouse. The activities teach quantities, ABCs, counting,
phonics, matching, size, shapes, listening skills, similarities, and differences. Along the way Pierre Polar Bear and his
friends are there to entertain, help, and encourage preschoolers. If at any time extra assistance is needed to complete
an activity, there is a help book that gives further instructions. Users are encouraged to complete activities so that they
receive train tickets. After they receive four tickets they get to take a train ride to fun locations. Parents of preschoolers
and homeschoolers alike should find this a great title to provide a "Jump Start" for the basic skills used in kindergarten.
Win 95/98/PowerMAC. 1998, Knowledge Adventure, $30.00. Ages 3 mo. to 5.

Bridwell, Norman, and Stephanie D'Abruzzo. Clifford the Big Red Dog. New York: Scholastic Audio, 2006. Sound
recording.

Elizabeth Sulock (Children's Literature)
This is the audio version of the book that started it all. While the title should probably be Clifford My Big Red Dog, as it is
told from the perspective of the young owner Emily Elizabeth, it is a charming and simple narrative of the owner and her
pet. The story is a traditional progressive utopia as there is no direct conflict, just the challenges Emily Elizabeth
experiences from owning an unconventionally sized pet. The story ends with the question, Ill keep Cliffordwouldnt
you? inviting readers to actively participate in the text. The paperback features the authors original artwork--full of
primary colors and bold lines--though it appears dated when compared to the popular show of the same title on PBS
Kids/Sprout. Stephanie DAbruzzos narration is fun and lively while Cheryl Smiths accompanying music, along with the
related sound effects such as dog and cat noises, adds a dynamic appeal that will appease listeners. Like all CDs in the
Scholastic Audio series, the first reading has page-turn signals while the second reading is uninterrupted. 2005,
Scholastic Inc, $9.95. Ages 3 to 6.
