SYNOPSIS OF THE SHORT STORY: HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY

This short story has been specially prepared for young readers whose English
vocabulary is not very large. The aim of this story is to help young readers acquire a better
grasp of the English language can offer to them. With thin aim in view, the story has been made
as interesting as possible, so that the young readers may not only remember the story but also
the words and expressions used in the story.

According to the story that titled by Honesty Is The Best Policy, was very fables which
convey with moral values. For example, about the attitude of Kok Kee as a young boy. Kok Kee
could be a role model for the other kids because of his good action when he made a decision to
ask the old man about the matter. The matter was happened when he and his friend met an old
man at the busy street in the town. He and his friend helped that old man to carry his big bag of
vegetables and the old man gave to them two notes of money to share each other as a reward.
Kok Kee was heard that an old man gave the one-dollar note to him and to his friend also. But,
he and his friend was surprised when they saw the money in their pocket was two five-dollar
notes.

He want to meet the old man again and ask about the matter, either that was the
mistake from that old man to gave a wrong notes or not. But, his friend Swee Boon not agree
with Kok Kee. This story was further when the old man gave some reward to the Kok Kee. Kok
Kee also was made a report police against his friend because of his mistake keeping the money
that given by the old man with mistake. After that, Swee Boon was caught by the policeman
and meet the magistrate. Swee Boon get a warning from the magistrate and he realize with his
action. From that day, he also agree to the words honesty is indeed the best policy

PERSONAL CRITICAL RESPONSE FROM THE SHORT STORY
Every one in the world can be a good person, but how honest he is? When people doing
something without paying, the result always be a little. But, when doing some with paying, the
result almost be a higher scores. So, with this point, we also can relate to our actions in every
time. Is that honest or not.

According to the story of Kok Kee as a honest boy, we know that he is a matured person
compared to his age. He understand in how to choose a good way and how to be a good
person without any guider or guardian. Besides of that, Kok Kee also give some advice to his
friend to returned the money that was given by the old man with mistake. Kok Kee also help his
friend to come out from the dark way and choose the right way like him. As a solution, Kok Kee
make a police report against to his friend and after that Swee Boon was realize from his bad
action and need to be as Kok Kee. For me, the solution was a very good idea and also can
saved his friend from the bad thing.

Then, personally Swee Boon is not a really bad person. That because his greedy made
him become a bad person with surprised. We also can see how gentle Swee Boon and his
friend helped that old man. But, Swee Boon become to be a someone else when he saw a
notes of money that given by the old man. He want that money and need to keep it as his own.
Then, at the end of the story, Swee Boon was realize from his fault and decided to be a honest
person from that time.

As a conclusion, this story is a good in order of it moral value. That because, many of us
can learn more about the story in how to be a good person with a honest policy. Beside of that,
we can see the implication of being a bad person like Swee Boon as unhonest person and
greedy person in that story.
