Thank you to everyone who came out on June 20th to honor the extraordinary refugee experience and support refugees. Djentrification kept things eclectic during the reception, and Phoenix Afrobeat Orchestra sent us dancing into the night. Food from Authentic Ethio African Spices, including some exceptional injera and wat, had hardly hit the tables when everyone found themselves craving more. Over 100 people gathered on the indoor balcony and lined the stairs to watch the centerpiece of the award ceremonya video that showed us seven stories of refugees and community members who inspire usright before beautiful glass awards and etched key chains were presented to the honorees.
By the time the ten-piece band packed up and dancing shoes were worn down and the flow of wine began to slow and hugs were shared all around, more than 300 people had partaken in World Refugee Day 2014 Phoenix with us. Volunteers, cosponsors, interns, colleagues from resettlement agencies and the state, community partners, our own staff and former coworkers, clients, interpreters, community members, family, friends everyone turned up to make the day a meaningful and memorable celebration.
See you all again at the next event.
