DISTRICT NINE AUGUST 2014 "Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a com- mon vision. The ability to direct individual accomplish- ment toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results." --Andrew Carnegie Last Club year, President Sabras theme was Championing Altrusa. Her desire was for us to not only sing the praises of our Club to the public, but for us to champion and support one another and committee to committee. While this may not be the theme for this Club year, it continues to be a goal. The teamwork that was part of Sabras theme is essential for the success of our projects and our Club. Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success. --Henry Ford As we enter the third month of our Club year, as our goals and plans are in place and we are executing our ideas, we see the importance of teamwork. No one com- mittee can do their work alone; it needs the support of the Club. Working together, cooperating with one anoth- er, and supporting the work of others will help to make us a strong, cohesive unit that can achieve great things. This year, our Membership Development Committee has put together some great ideas to help us become a more unified group. The Friendship Basket gives us an op- portunity to get to know one another better on a one to one basis and the Fun of the Month allows us to spend social time together as a group. These are great team building activities and should truly help us with our re- tention efforts. The recruitment side of Membership De- velopment will require your help and support. The com- mittee needs your help to get potential members to meetings or events. They depend on each of you to invite your friends and colleagues, talk about Altrusa with peo- ple you meet, and encourage membership to guests. The committee cannot do all this work alone, they need the team. Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much --Helen Keller We have many opportunities this year to do work with our Service Committee. This year, we have created hands on service projects that will give to our community in new ways. This work is harder than writing a check, but in many ways it is more rewarding. When we work together, giving with our hands and our hearts, we get to spend time together, side by side, making a difference. So far this year, we have created the blankets for Mosa- ic, working together on a couple of different occasions. There will be many more opportunities for us to work together this year and support the Service Committee. We all joined this organization to help our community and do service work, this year we will need to work to- gether as a team to make that happen. Communications needs the team behind them as well. When each committee submits its information in a time- ly matter it is easier to get the newsletter complete. If we share the photos we all take at different events we will have a more complete picture of who we are for our Club display. We can also support our communications team by sharing the information posted on social media. The Communications committee can only get Presidents Message

information out to a limited amount of people, its up to each of you to share it and get the word out there. "Respect your fellow human being, treat them fairly, disagree with them honestly, enjoy their friendship, explore your thoughts about one another candidly, work together for a common goal and help one another achieve it." --Bill Bradley Each year, we have choices to make on how we raise money for our projects. We could simply ask each member to write a check and be done with it. Unfortunately, that method, while simple, brings very little besides money to our Club. Our Finances Commit- tee, and specifically our Ways and Means Committee, works to cre- ate fundraising programs that not only bring in the dollars for our projects, but also get our name and image out to the community. The other committees can support the work they do in so many ways. Their work also depends on the individuals in the Club to invite their friends, ask for the donations, purchase what is being sold, and other tasks. This year, the Ways and Means Committee has aggressive goals and they will depend on having the team sup- port them to get the job done. We are a team. Each of us chose to join this organization. The option to simply volunteer for agencies or write checks has always been available, yet we chose Altrusa. We are a team, a family, a gang, a troop, a unit, and partners. Please remember when we work as a team we are at our best. JUNE BOARD ACTIONS Board approved the Ways and Means proposal JUNE CLUB ACTIONS Club was made aware of a possible to change to our Founda- tion. Policy 27 means we will need to make changes to the name of our Foundation and possibly come under the um- brella of the International Foundation. We are wait to hear the results of the International Board meeting of July before the Board and Club make any decisions. By Meg Muller 11 Atrusans and 2 Altrousers enjoyed an interesting tour at the Meadows Museum on Saturday 7/19/14. Some of the group met beforehand at La Madeline and then at 3 PM our docent Mary led us on our tour. We began with the history of the muse- um and Algur Meadows love of art and in particular Spanish art. Next we toured "The Spanish Gesture" exhibit which were drawings from Murillo to Goya. These were sketches drawn by the artists before creating the paintings and were filled with in- tricate detail. Many were used to develop prints. We learned about the numerous steps to complete one print. Our tour con- tinued on through halls of paintings where we learned about the history of the ruling families. Also which ones were martyrs. Did you know that portraits were completed throughout their lives so the people could see what the ruling family looked like? We all commented on the deep reds and rich blues and green col- ors used in all of the paintings. They were so vivid without being bright. Of course we had to support the Museum gift shop and then ended out day at the Trinity Hall Irish Pub. What a wonder- ful and informative afternoon spent with Altrusans. Stay tuned to next months "Fun of the Month"! August Principle and Responsibility balanced. Meg presented the financials for June from the Foundation financials and our bank ac- count is balanced! Membership Development Dont forget to call your Buddy between meet- ings. Stay tuned for more Fun of the Month events!
