BRAILLE



Braille is special writing for blind people. Blind people
cannot see, but they can read Braille. Louis Braille
invented the system in 1824, in France. At the time, he
was only fifteen years old.
The letters in Braille writing are not normal letters.
They are dots on the paper. Blind people touch the
dots; they read the letters with their hands. Dots do
not represent only letters of the alphabet; they also
represent numbers, punctuation, and frequent words.
Many blind people in the world can read in Braille.
There are many books written in Braille but they are
very expensive.
Now, blind people can use computers and CD players at
home and at work. There are also calculators and
different machines which can talk, these help blind
people, too.
