Voters wont be fooled

ESCONDIDO (August 20, 2014)---The endorsements that matter to Escondido voters are
the ones from their friends, family and neighbors, which is why the No on Prop. H
campaign is pleased with the venerable list of signatures on our ballot statement.

Up to five people can sign a ballot statement, and the No on H signers are:
Lorraine Boyce, former Escondido Mayor
Chick Embrey, legendary Escondido High School football coach (Wilson
Stadium at Chick Embrey Field is named after him)
Dennis Snyder, founder of Escondido Charter High School and another legendary
football coach in Escondido
Mike Stein, former police chief for Escondido
Jack Hall, Escondido resident

By comparison, the Yes on Prop. H ballot statement is signed by Michael Schlesinger and
at least two people on his payroll. They are:

Dennis Hollingsworth (paid consultant)
Michael Crews (paid consultant)
Tae Sapida (former employee of the Escondido Golf Course)

Michael Schlesinger might be able to buy political influence with his campaign
contributions and sponsorship checks, but voters wont be fooled, said Mike Slater,
president of the homeowners association behind the No on Prop. H campaign. They
know hes a ruthless Beverly Hills developer, a bully who has dumped raw chicken
manure behind the homes of his opponents.

Slater added: This isnt a NIMBY issue. This is about Escondido residents standing up to
a bully who wants to destroy the only remaining green space in the northwest part of
the city. If someone made a movie about all of this, I can guarantee you that no one in
the theatre would be rooting for Michael Schlesinger.

Escondido real estate agent Rick Elkin said: Mr. Schlesinger's 'vision' would forever
change the face of Northwest Escondido, making it much more urban and stripping it of

its iconic identity of bold rock formations, large stands of eucalyptus and pine trees, and
abundant wildlife. The quiet serenity, the resort-like atmosphere Escondido city
planners established would become Mira Mesa North.

By using the California initiative process, which was never intended to be used as a
planning tool for major home developments, Michael Schlesinger will legislatively dodge
all of the standard community improvement requirements that any other builder would
normally have to mitigate in exchange for the right to proceed. He won't have to build
schools, fire stations, playgrounds or dog parks; he won't have to improve the freeway
ramps that will be overwhelmed by thousands of new cars every morning. He won't
have to upgrade sewer treatment plants, replace older storm drains or protect large
areas of environmentally sensitive wetlands.

Elkin added: This ballot issue is really about trust. Do the citizens of Escondido trust
one man's self-serving vision more than they trust the decisions of the elected
professionals who set the course for Northwest Escondido back in 1963, decisions that
were recently reinforced when the Escondido City Council unanimously adopted the
Citizens Property Rights Initiative to keep the rural greenbelt in place?

Voting NO on the Lakes Specific Plan will stop one man from permanently disfiguring
the face of the community and contributing virtually nothing to it. It would be a colossal
mistake to trust this riverboat gambler who is arrogant enough to think that he, and he
alone, has the best interests of our neighborhood at heart.
