OCTOBER THE 9th IS GATEWAY S 1 0th
Sept
2014
I
s it myself or is it this year flying by? September
already , and a time of change is upon us once
again. Leaves will be falling soon, back to the
earth, to become food for next years forest floors
growth. What a magical world!
There is a special mention of Gateways 10th Birthday
Party on page 3. Take notice of it and please join Helen
and other members in Gateway to plan what way you
would like to celebrate this fantastic milestone in
Gateways existence.
Last of all, we at the Newsletter team hope you enjoy
this months offering. Dont forget the Newsletter team
meet each Thursday in the back room from 2.30 till
4.30. Feel free to join us each week for an easy
enjoyable gathering. -The Newsletter Team.

F
or the last 18 months I have been fortunate to
have lived in a house in County Meath, with a
huge garden and a big poly-tunnel for growing
vegetables. Over this year and a half I have spent most
of my time planting and growing all types of flowers
and vegetables. It is amazing how much I have learnt, I
being a city-slicker. Here are a few lessons I have learnt.

1. The main thing I learnt was that I am not in control
in the garden. There is a force much greater then I at
work here.
2. Slugs love baby lettuce, baby beetroot, baby spinach
and any other green baby that I plant.
3. Hens do not need to be told when it is their bedtime.
They know best.
4. Some plants dont like other plants and will not
grow if planted beside each other. Im serious.
5. Pigs can jump fences and destroy your neighbours
flower gardens. I knew they could fly...but jump...
6. Tomatoes picked warm and fresh from the vine are
heavenly to eat, as so are all the other fresh
vegetables that grow here.
7. Weeds are very clever and can hide so well among
the vegetables.
8. When I put a seed into the soil and water it, it is
nothing short of magic what happens next.

CRITICAL VOICES NETWORK
Would you be interested in exploring
alternative viewpoints on mental health, mental
illness and diagnoses? The Critical Voices
Network are hosting their 6th annual
conference this November in UCC. The title
this year is Critical perspectives on and
beyond psychiatric diagnoses. It will be held
on the 12th and 13th of November and is free
of charge, however early booking is essential. I
highly recommend attending, and I think it
would be great fun if we could get a group
together and enjoy a couple of days (or one,
you dont need to attend both days) in Cork.
Sound interesting? Give me a call (01-
4965558) or email ali@rpcp.ie if it does, we
can figure out how to make it work financially/
practically/whatever-your-obstacle-might-be
for all! -Ali

GATEWAY PROJECT HOURS
As much as we would love to be open all day every day,
we just haven't the resources, funding or insurance to be
operating outside of our fixed opening times.
This means that the Project is open only from 1 to 5pm
on Mondays and Thursdays, excluding courses that run
outside of these times. Members are also always
welcome to attend and participate in Project Team
meetings every Monday from 12pm.
Gateway Project closes at 5pm to allow project workers
to have their closing meeting and leave for home. We
ask members to help us observe these times to help the
Project function as best it can and so that our amazing
and supportive peer workers can finish up and head
home. Thanks for your support and understanding :)
Mental Health Reform
...have been busy, and
Gateway have been getting
involved. By the time we go to
press Lara (from MHR) will
have been over to talk to us
about their pre-budget
campaign which they will be
launching shortly. They are
trying to keep the government
to their promises of funding for
mental health services (which
they have previously not
kept!).
MHR are also looking for
peoples positive experiences
of the services. Was there a
time when you needed them
and they were of help? Let us
know in Gateway or contact
Lara yourself
lkelly@mentalhealthreform.ie
And did you notice their
twitter campaign? Check out
pics sent by Gateway members
(and many others) of what
their #mentalhealthlifesaver is.

Super Fun Tri p Away! ! ! !
The Gateway Project was delighted to hear some good news recently! Following our
application to arnrod ireann for possible awarding of funding to Community Projects,
we are delighted to announce that we were selected for funding for FREE return trips
for up to 50 people to anywhere in the country!!!! We are now in the process of planning a nice trip down the
country, (somewhere to be decided), for sometime later in the year. It will be lovely and we hope everyone will be
interested in going on the trip.
An ant on the move does more than a dozing ox.
It' s amazing that the amount of news that happens in the world every day always just exactly fits the newspaper.
OCTOBER

It is hard to believe Gateway celebrates 10 years this year! As a way to celebrate this and the success of
the Gateway Project in the Rathmines Community we are thinking a party is in order!!!! There is excitement
brewing in Gateway about our 10th Anniversary Birthday Party! We have a provisional date of Thursday, 9th
October set as this coincides with Mental Health Day on the 10th October. We are forming a party committee to
help organise this fab event and everyone is invited to submit ideas and what they think will make this a great day
for all members. Ideas big or small everything will be welcome! We will be meeting for an hour a week during

There you will find our monthly Newsletter, the monthly
schedule, and lots of other interesting bits about
Gateway as well as whats happening in the community.
It is well worth a look and I think you will find it a very
useful Tool to help remember when members meetings
take place, when the next outing will happen and
everything you might want to know but cant remember.
