Are you thinking about upgrading to the latest release of Dynamics GP 2013, but youre not sure

whether its worthwhile to you?

Well, I could give you over 150 reasons why you might decide to upgrade, but instead, I will highlight
just a few of my personal favorite new features!

Select Printer
Oh, its the little things that bring joy to my
world! GP 2013 introduces a standard
Windows Print dialog box each time your
report destination is set to Printer so that
you can select your desired printer for each
print job!

SmartList Favorites Pane
Did I mention that little things make
me happy? You can now control the
Favorites Pane within the SmartList
window. Choices are: Show, Hide,
Auto-Hide, Increase Width, and
Decrease Width!

SmartList Designer
SmartList Designer is a tool that lets you create
entirely new SmartLists from scratch, or allows
you to base new lists on existing ones. You
can add multiple tables to your lists, or base
them on SQL Views. You can also create
calculated fields, and you can even preview
the results before saving your new list!

Year-End Changes
There are quite a few changes in and around your General Ledger Year-End Closing that are sure to save
you time. You can set individual Unit Accounts so their balances either roll forward each year or zero
out. Choose to either keep, remove, or selectively remove inactive accounts during the GL closing
process. There is also a new Progress Bar that shows the closing status while the process is running.

Easy Historical Journal Entry Inquiries
There is a new dropdown box in the Journal Entry Inquiry window that lets you select the year to inquire
upon, when looking up posted journal entries.

Reconcile to General Ledger
There are significant improvements to the Reconcile to General Ledger routine that was originally
introduced in Dynamics GP 10.0! Users can reconcile not only Payables and Receivables subledgers, but
also Checkbooks and Inventory subledgers. In addition, you can look up previous reconciliations, and
best of all, you can even drill back to Dynamics GP from the Excel file that the routine creates!

Exciting Payables Changes
My four favorite new features in payables are:
Easily switch a vendors 1099 status. Beginning in GP 2013, the Update 1099 Information
window can be used to switch a vendor and all their pre-existing transactions from Not a
1099 Vendor into any 1099-able status necessary!
You can use the Print 1099 window to generate the annual Form 1096.
Credits are automatically unapplied when voiding payables transactions. Did you ever try to
void an invoice in payables, only to have GP inform you that credits have been applied and
therefore you cannot void the transaction? Well, now GP allows you to void those transactions
and seamlessly unapplies any pre-existing credit transactions that were applied.
Easily combine/modify vendors IDs. Did you ever discover that you have a vendor listed twice
in your vendor list? Now you can easily combine those two vendors into one, and consolidate
all of the transaction history from both original vendors! Even better, this also applies to
customers, as well!
Historical Depreciation
Im shouting this one from the rooftops: FIXED ASSETS NOW HAS HISTORICAL DEPRECIATION REPORTS!

Simply select a cutoff date when generating your report, to get depreciation amounts as of the date you
specify.

Suggested Selling
Increase sales with suggestions for additional items Use the Suggest Sales Item Maintenance window
to specify suggested additional items to sell when entering a Sales Order Processing invoice, quote,
order, or fulfillment order. You can select up to five line items.

Inactivate Items
I wanted to throw in one last little thing that makes me quite happy. There is now a simple checkbox
in the Item Maintenance window that allows you mark an item as Inactive. Items that are marked
inactive can no longer be bought or sold.

Final recap
There are over 150 new features and enhancements in this version of Dynamics GP, which will optimize
your productivity by saving you time and improving your processes. Another compelling reason to
upgrade is that Microsoft has changed their approach to adding new features, so that features are being
added with each Service Pack instead of only with new versions. This means that if you upgrade to
Dynamics GP 2013, you will continue to receive new features with each service pack you install going
forward!
