Indian Bank)

One of our ardent reader, Prabhakaran has shared his success story with us. Please find below the details story
(unedited).

Dear Bankersadda,
Hi,I am Prabhakaran. After 2 years struggle, I got the bank job as a:
1. Indian Bank - Po
2. Indian Bank - Clerk
3. KVB - PO

Qualification:
I am a B.E-Electronics and Communication student from Tamil Nadu. As I passed my college in 2012 I
have no idea about how to get job. I search for jobs for 6 months and come to competitive exams as a try.

I started my bank preparations from IBPS CLERICAL 2012.Since I am
an Engineering student Mathematics, Computer and Reasoning is OK for me. But English and Gk is a big
hurdle to get through.

I got 117/200 in IBPS CLERK 2.Since I am from OBC category I applied in General. Due to this I failed in
reasoning by 1 mark. It hurts me a lot and thinks to switch over to some other field. But due to the gap of
8 months all companies questioned about the gap and I was rejected in most of the companies.
Coming to my family background, my father is a Pensioner and my mother is a house wife. After lot of
pressure from my family I decided to come back to bank exam preparation.
I asked my father Please give me 1 year time to get a job. He agreed and I start my preparations in Jan
2013.

Even then I had continuous failures in 8 exams (IBPS CLERK 2012, SBI PO 2013, SSC CGL 2013, LIC
AAO, NICL ASSISTANT, KVB CLERK)

And Continuous success comes in (IBPS PO 3, IBPS CLERK 3, IBPS RRB 3, KVB PO)

Winners are not those who never fail,But those who never quit. I believe in this only.

My way of studying:
Now I am telling my view to approach competitive exams. First make a mindset that we dont need
200/200 marks. We just need a safe score most probably 60%. I prepare a blue print for every exams by
go through the previous year question papers. After that we got an overall idea how to leave the weaker
sections in the question paper.

For Quantitative and Reasoning I just practise the notes.

For General Awareness:
1. Read Bankersadda regularly and write the Daily GK update. After one month revise the GK using the
Bankersadda monthly capsule.
2. Every competitive exam has 20% Gk in Traditional GK (Headquarters, Heads of Important
organisations, Sports Terms likewise. So be thorough in it.
3. Read the capsule given by Bankersadda without fail.

For English:
This is one of the toughest sections I face in bank exams. In my practise tests at the beginning I just take
5/50 in English sections. I overcome it by 3 ways
1. Buy separate Practise set for English or practise the English section in previous PO question papers.
2. Get the hard words from the synonyms, antonyms, comprehension, cloze test.
3. Take a separate note and write the meaning for it.
4. Read Hindu Newspaper.
5. Reading Hindu is useful to score marks in Comprehension, Cloze test, Error correction.

Banking is a contradict field to my Engineering studies. I get threw in bank because of my continuous
preparations and continuous attempts. So please dont fear about failures. Learn from Failures. Failures
are the stepping stone to success

My Advice:
DONT REVEAL ANYTHING UNTIL U SUCCEEDS
Hide from your friends, relatives and family. Start your preparations. After you got job offer share with
everyone
IF WE SUCCEED ALL CHEERS, BUT WE FAILS NO ONE ENCOURAGE

Thanks to Bankersadda!!!

Success Story of Prashant Kumar (Bank PO in IOB)
Dear readers, Prashant Kumar, an ardent reader of bankersadda has shared his success story with us.
Please read on...

Dear Bankersadda,

Here is my story for the road to PO-III sucess

Qualification:
I am a B.Tech Computer Science Student from Agra, currently pursuing M.Tech(CS) from Agra itself.

Background:
Since the start of my graduation itself I had a strong feeling towards government jobs, preferably Banking
Sector since I belong to a family of bankers. I had an offer from TCS through campus placement but still I
was not satisfied with the offer.

Study Plan:
Now finally I had to make a plan for studying. I belong to a weaker financial background and also I had no
time from my hectic M.Tech schedule to spare so the only option left for me was-Self Study.

I had nearly 3 months to study the whole syllabus. With all the chaos going around about the sectional
cutoffs in five sections of the paper and very rare chances for a mediocre general category student to
qualify in the first list...the first thing was to stop listening to such discussions and keep the mind away
from it. After a few days I was ready to study for the paper(although still I was a bit nervous). I had a 9-10
hour extensive routine (10:30-4:30 college and then 5:00-8:00 PM traching at a coaching class) but still I
had a target to achieve: come what may, I will be cracking this in the first attempt only. I studied for the
exam from 6 am-8 am then 10:00 PM-2 AM at night on daily basis...approx hours with modest breaks in
between.
Subject-Wise Preparation

1. English-
Prepared this one month before the exam.(around 11 PM-12 AM)
As I belong to ICSE school background, english was quite easy for me But still I must say looking at the
current pattern of IBPS, some sections of it are quite confusing so u need to practice a lot. I referred
Objective English by Edgar Thorpe(TMH Publications--it is a quite reader-friendly book...you will love
english after reading it whatever your background is--- believe me!). I also practised from Last year
papers--they do help a lot but practice is essential---study english like maths it will turn out to be easy and
scoring section in the exam.

2.Quantitative Aptitude
Prepared it daily starting from 3 months before the exam. Studied in the night(12:00-2:00 AM)
The next section was QA- means Maths. It is believed that someone belonging to Engg background will
be 100% sure about securing good marks in this section but this is not fully correct. Although basics might
be clear already but the type of maths questions asked in the exam can be a tough nut to crack...the hefty
calculations in Data Interpretations are not solvable correctly and fastly even by Engg background
students very easily.I first revised the basics from RS agarwal...yes, not because I am weak in maths, but
I was to be sure and satisfied from my part-it took me 1 month. Yes, I did solve each and every questions
from the examples of the book. Next part was DI-for this the best solution was Buy an Online Test
Series...and Give the practice/Speed tests, etc it will make a timely judgement and it helps a lot ,especially
DI section. I did not give any test full as it would cost me time and also it diverted me to other sections
(which I did not want to practice for at that moment), I attempted just one section from a test and got
marks for it(although the mock test results showed me fail--as marks in other sections were 0) and the
time/comparison with topper marks in the subject. Not only for maths, I did the same for Other Sections--
gave 1 section each time(take care---dont spend 120 minutes on that 1 section only...I gave 30 minutes
then I submitted my test )

3.Reasoning
Prepared it daily starting from 3 months before the exam. Studied in the morning(6:00-8:00 AM)
My Weakest section in all. I didnt want to study it at all. But still, to pass the exam, I had to do it. So, I
bought M.Tyra (by going through several blogs/forums)...it made me prepared for the following topics-
Syllogism,Statement and Assumptions Inferences, etc) but according to me it lacked the Machine I/O
topic(it had one chapter but the questions were of low level as compared to the exam),Sitting
arrangement(the exam has puzzles+sitting arrangement types which it didnt have). So for that I bought an
unpopular book "Test of Reasoning" by Thorpe(TMH)...although it is not one of the "best sellers" but it is
quite good. There are plenty of questions that fit in the correct pattern of latest IBPS exam-has easier and
tricky questions both. This book worked like a charm for me. Practiced it for a month and I gained
confidence in this section.I usually studied reasoning in the morning(6-8 am) time and it freshened my
mind for the day.

4.General Awareness
Prepared it daily starting from 3 months before the exam. Studied in the night(10:00-12:00 AM)
Now comes this section...the most dangerous one. I was in touch of Current Affairs as I am a regular
Internet(especially Twitter--follow the new channels on it--really helps to improve the current affairs) and
Newspaper reader.History, geography, etc I didnt prepare as time was less for it and level could be any--I
am not an IAS aspirant currently that GK is handy to me..so I left these. Now left with Banking Awareness
which I totally was unaware of...I spent some days(nearly 15 days to mine the internet to find the
"Sanjeevni Booti" for it and then one day I came across bankersadda capsules. These were amazing.I
matched the level of questions from the past papers and bankersadda fitted in exactly to it. So, I mugged
up the PO capsule and was ready for this section too.

5. Computers
It was a bit easier section for me as I had my qualification in CS only.

My Advice
As I am not a success guru or a mentor for anyone...I am not in any position to give any advice to anyone
but I say what I myself have learned- Believe in yourself and never listen to any of the negative
discussions around you...please STOP SURFING the net the time a negative thought comes in your mind
regarding anything, leave such talks if you are having any .Never speculate any cutoffs, etc it will only bring
down your confidence..or will make you over-confident(either way it is bad for your success).

Study regularly, a good job requires a deep study. Never calculate the stats for any exam/job profile after
you have filled the form or during studying for it..Nobody is Einstein or Newton, if you are good that will
surely help you but you must always consider yourself as a common man and prepare accordingly. Give
your 100% to everything you choose for urself

Success Story of Saheli De (Bank PO in Bank Of India)
One of our reader, Saheli De, from West Bengal has shared her success story with us. Please find below
the unedited version of the story -

Dear Bankersadda all future bank job aspirants,

I would like to share my success story of both IBPS PO and clerical. Last year this time, I was confused
whether to continue my job in IT (since 2011) or move on to a more settled job like bank. Having parents
in nationalized banks was also an added incentive to focus on this thought. I finally left my job in July
2013 and started my preparation for IBPS PO and clerical. As exams were in October 2013, I had very
less time to prepare. Nevertheless, I knew I had to crack it in the first attempt itself. I made a very
achievable target. Its important you know what you can do and what not. Please remember to go through
last years exam papers. It gives you a clear picture of the syllabus.

Since I had an engineering background, QA was my strongest section. I revised all old concepts from
books and solved one QA paper everybody. Initially dont bother about your speed and concentrate on
the accuracy factor. Few weeks before the exam, you are sure to gain good speed provided you follow
the shortcuts and speedy way of solving it. Please follow a good guidance book thoroughly as it helps you
to go through all the topics.

Next I needed to focus on my second strongest section- Reasoning. Since IBPS conducts online exams,
non-verbal Reasoning was out of syllabus. I started to practice verbal reasoning and focused on my
weaker sections like critical reasoning, input output and also time to time revise the easier parts like
coding decoding, blood relations. Please try to solve a Reasoning paper on alternate days if not every
day. The topics that I covered were (Synonyms, Antonyms, Fill in the blanks, Spelling, Usage of words),
(Symbols & Notations, Coding-Decoding (Set based), Blood Relations), Analytical Puzzles - Circular &
Linear, Distributions, Comparisons), Deductions, Data Sufficiency - Reasoning based, Input-Output,
Decision Making. Please remember to practice one DI question every day. Try to have your own shortcut
method for these topics.

Next section was computer knowledge. Since IBPS PO had 20 marks for this section, not much effort and
time is required for this section. Please go through all concepts like history of computers, generation of
computers, different OS and application software chapters. Regular paper solving not required for this
section.

Next is my weakest section General awareness. Since the notification clearly mentions GA with
reference to banking industry, it was important I focused on banking knowledge more than current affairs.
I must admit nobody can achieve 100% preparation in this section. I tried to read one national newspaper
everyday with special focus on general national news, economics etc. and watch the daily news
headlines to TV. One could also read the online news to be updated. Please be aware of the last 3
months (before the exam date) current affairs if not more. I made a diary of all the finding from d
newspaper and TV and revised the diary a week before the exams. This diary was like my own
encyclopedia of GA.

English is a section which doesnt require too much effort generally. I solved a model paper regularly to
brush up my skills. People with non-English medium background should focus on their grammar more to
score good marks.

The most important thing is that an aspirant should be exam friendly. For that I solved a model paper at a
gap of 3 days. At the start, the marks came low as I had not covered all the topics but its important to be
in the exam mood from the start. Since total time provided in the exam is pretty less compared to the
number of questions, these paper solving helps to identify the order in which one will attempt the 5
sections in the actual exam day. I followed the order of Computer- GA QA-Reasoning- English without
wasting much time on a particular question. I had allotted a time 5-10-40-40-10 minutes for Computer,
GA, QA, Reasoning, English respectively. A balance of 15 minutes was for going back to the questions
unsolved in the first attempt. The time division helped a lot when it came to ibps PO as the paper was
very tough. The 15 minutes balance helped me to focus on QA and reasoning sections a bit more as
revision was out of question for PO exam. The same approach hit bulls eye as I had good time to revise
my clerical exam.

All the best to all future aspirants. Remember that it is not a tough exam and you can do it. Its important
to believe in yourself. For people who do not have a strong maths background, you may enroll to a decent
coaching institute for professional guidance.

RESULT:
BANK OF INDIA - PO. FINAL SCORE: 48.00 (WRITTEN 91)
BANK OF BARODA- CLERICAL (WEST BENGAL). SCORE: 75.40 (WRITTEN 151)

Regards,
Saheli De.
Kolkata.

Success Story of Chander Mohan (Probationary Officer in Bank
of Baroda)
Dear Students, In this thread we will share few success stories of our ardent readers of Bankersadda.

Hello fellows, I studied Diploma(ECE) , B.Tech(EEE) & M.Tech(GeoInformatics) . Family wanted to make
me an engineer so I choose this field but my mind was not getting any attraction here.
After B.Tech , I wanted to get some knowledge of new emerging area so I took admission in M.Tech
Geoinformatics.

But sooner after B.Tech, I realized that i cant get a stable & permanent job in technical area. So I have
done all pre-planing of getting a govt job through ssc or ibps. I started working on conceptual knowledge
as well as short tricks. I started practice. In 2011, i cleared PO-I , but got rejected in interview due to
document verification problem.

Then I moved my concentration on Geo Informatics while teaching in some
private enggineering colleges.
Once again , I tried my luck in 2012 but couldnt seat in exam due to health problem. Then in PO-III , i
started preparation again with new pattern of ibps . Meanwhile i joined a coaching center & started to
deliver leectures in it to practice more & more. I had no choice... I thought.. I must have to clear exam this
time...as i was touching 25 year age. I did hardwork.. spent time on english math... then had some extra
practice by joining online test series. I completed 410+ practice papers ( you can guess the time i spent) .

Then I checked my status of result after exam , it was passed... as i was expecting..my score was
excellent.. 92 in General Category. Meanwhile preparing for Interview , I suffered from a family disaster
(my younger bro was murdered). It was a turning point of my life. I realized that we cant fill this loss but it
is better to appear in interview. With half boozy & puzzled mind , I appeared in interview & performed
more than my own expectations ( i have shared experience with you ).
But the time inbetween interview & final allotment was very long. It was a long & tired day-chain. Anyway ,
finally got a msg from my friend that I have cleared Interview. I thought it is 1st april & he is trying to make
me fool. I checked result by myself... and it was 50.4 out of 100

Aah .. it was like ...my dream came true... final allotment as PO in Bank of Baroda ( my 2nd preference)

Finally , one thing for all aspirants, dont loose hope.. do hardwork in right direction... believe in urself &
GOD. He will bless you at right time.

Success Story of Saurav Bhattacharjee (Bank PO in UCO
Bank)
One of our ardent reader, Saurav Bhattacharjee has shared his success story with us. Please find below
the details story (unedited).

Hello everyone, I am Saurav Bhattacharjee, residing in Kolkata, I have been selected as a PO in UCO
Bank, and Union bank of India as a clerk.

This is my first attempt as a PO, however cracking these exams was not so simple as it appears.
I have completed my intermediate (10+2) from Bokaro steel city, as we stayed there earlier. My father
worked as a Manager in SAIL, Bokaro...I was planing to pursue my career in Engineering, and I took
admission in Dr MGR University, Chennai in Mechanical Engg.

In the meanwhile my father passed away in a road accident, still I was continuing my studies but when I
was in my 5th Semester, I had an accident due to which I could attend my classes, and was asked to
redo the semester, and we were not in a condition to repay the semester fees as we were not in fault...I
had to leave my college...came back home broken down thinking abt my future which was seemingly to b
in dark as I lost around 3.5 yrs, however my elder brother serving in Armed forces, encouraged me a lot,
and motivated me aswell.

I again started doing Graduation in English literature from a correspondence course thinking that I will try
hard, wat if I cannot become an engineer, I will go beyond that, wid the same attitude I started preparing, I
knew and experienced many things and conditions when I was going thru my hard times, I ultimately
found it was my family and a very very few frnds who stood there for me, I am theist and believe in god ,
and i completely owe my success to the almighty, without which I won't have been possible ..

Its my request to every aspirant that keep trying n donot loose hope, even if failure comes, becoz true
happiness can only be felt once u have encountered the harsh realities of life.

Wish u all good luck :-)
