wouldbeagoodcandidateforbeingimmortalisedinvideogamehistorybylendingtheirtalents
totheworldofgaming.Ofcourse,Mr.Spaceysnewestroleisntafirstfortheindustry;EllenPages
recent performance in Beyond: Two Souls gained her significant praise, even if the game itself
garneredmixedreviews.Hollywoodactorsarebecomingincreasinglymorecommongoingforward
too,withthelikesofKieferSutherlandrecentlyreplacingDavidHayterasthevoiceofMetalGear
SolidsSnake,andwereseeingfamousactorsincreasinglytakinguproles,sohisperformancemay
beoneofvoiceonly,buttheresnodenyingthatitsagrowingtrend.Sowiththatinmind,heres
alistofprolificactorsthatwouldmakegreatvideogamecharactersinbothappearanceandsound.
10.MorganFreeman
Thisisanobrainer.Mr.FreemansvocalchordsareasrecognisableastheMcDonaldslogo,andits
forthisveryreasonthattheacclaimedactorispronetobecastinrolesthatcomplimenthiswise,
calmandnarratorfriendlyvoice.Withthisinmind,whowouldntlovetoseesuchamasterofhis
craftplayaveteranAssassinintheAssassinsCreedseries sortofagoodversionofAlMualimif
youwillandserveasaguidinglightforwhichevernewprotagonistUbisoftcomeupwithnext?
Who knows, he could be your mentor in the upcoming Assassins Creed: Unity. The master of
narrationisnostrangertothedarkersideofactingthough,andwithfilmslikeStreetSmartand
Wantedshowcasinghisabilitytoplayjustplaindespicablecharacters,youcouldjustaseasilysee
theveteranplayatwistedserialkillerinaslowburningfilmnoiradventuregameinthesamevein
asHeavyRain.Afterall,Mr.Freemanisnostrangertothegenreafterhisexcellentperformancein
Se7en.
9.AnthonyHopkins
Cantimaginethisonebeingverylikely,butboy,woulditbegreat.Itwouldbedismissiveofhis
variedworktosaytheactorsfinestperformancewasasHannibalLecterinSilenceoftheLambs,
but it is certainly one of his most prolific. His calm, yet subtly sinister performance in that film
would make an excellent antagonist for a slowburning survival horror title. Imagine the actor
utilising his many talents to play a character not too dissimilar to the Mass Effect series Illusive
Man. One whose intentions are not immediately clear, with his origins and motivations being
shroudedinmystery,yetstillprovidingvaluableadviceandguidancetotheplayercharacter.The
alternate perspective of course, is having the acclaimed actor play an unwavering, sadistic
mastermindwhosonlyconcernistheplayfulmanipulationofhumanemotionstohischaracters
own benefit. This talent isnt just evident in the Hannibal series either, films like Fracture have
shownjusthowmuchMr.Hopkinsrelishestheopportunitytoplayadepravedindividual.
8.JoePesci
ThepresenceofthisguyinthelistislargelyduetohisoutstandingperformanceinGoodFellas.If
evertherewasacandidateforthemostauthenticandpsychoticgangsterperformanceincinema,
JoePescisperformanceasTommyDeVitowouldbetopofthatlist.GameslikeL.A.Noirewouldbe
a perfect fit for his talents, and youd be hard pushed to find another actor who could play a
sociopathasgenuinelyasMr.Pesci.IfTeamBondievermakeasequel,thehopeisthattheyemploy
the actors talents to play a character similar to those seen in Casino and the aforementioned
GoodFellas interrogating a character with his likeness and L.A. Noires facial recognition
technology would be a dream come true for many. Those of you who grew up in the 90s may
rememberPescisroleinthenowquintessentialChristmasfilmHomeAloneasabumbling,hapless
burglar:avictimofdevioustrapslaidbyaneightyearoldboy.Theactorisunquestionablycapable
of comedy roles too, but whether these talents would translate well to video games is an
interesting prospect an expletivefilled role in a potential sequel to Bulletstorm would be just
dandy.
7.TomHardy
ForgetJasonStatham,TomHardyisthetrueBritishhardman.ForanyonewhohasseenWarrior,
Bronson or even the Dark Knight Rises, youll know that hetakes his movie roles very seriously.
Hed make a stellar squad leader in a military firstperson shooter or even a steelyeyed, no
nonsense criminal. As an illegal moonshiner la Lawless or as a hardened drug lord, Mr. Hardy
couldbringahugedegreeofweighttoanyrolegiventohim,andisoneofthemostversatileactors
inthebusinessrightnow.WhowouldntlovetoseehimtakeonarolesimilartoJohnMarstonin
Red Dead Redemption an ageing Old West criminal who lives in a changing world no longer
concernedwithoutlawsnotwillingtoconform.Hardysnostrangertocomedyeither.ThisMeans
War and Inception both cast him in roles that shed him of his intimidating persona fromgrittier
films, and while nobody wants him to pull a De Niro and submit entirely to comedy, theres no
harminplayingthefunnyguyonceinawhile.
6.CharlizeTheron
Thisentryshouldcomeasnosurprisetoanyonewhoisaselfconfessedsciencefictionnerd.With
filmslikeAeonFlux,PrometheusandMonsterunderherbelt,CharlizeTheronsstrikingbeautyand
stern demeanour would be an excellent fit for almost any role. For the sake of contemplation
though,shedbeagreatfitforgamesliketheupcomingAlien:Isolationorasaguidinglightforthe
playerinthesameilkasLiamNeesonsroleastheplayercharactersfatherinFallout3.Itsboring
toalwaysplaythedogooderthough,andiftheresonerolethatMiss.Theronwouldfitlikeaglove
over all others, it would be in the Resident Evil series. If motion capture technology was readily
available around the release of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, she would have made a fantastic
Alexia Ashford. You never know though, Resident Evil 7 is reportedlyon the horizon, so the
prospectcouldbecomeareality.
5.LeonardoDiCaprio
WhowouldhavethoughtthatDiCapriowouldbesuchasoughtafteractorfollowinghisbreakout
performanceinTitanic?Saidnobodyever.DiCapriosasversatileasactorscome,andwhetheryou
first saw him in Gangs of New York or Django Unchained, theres no denying that the man is
extremelytalented.AfterhisperformanceasCalvinCandyinDjango,seeinghiminasimilarvideo
game role as an abhorrent slaver thats unavoidably likeable due to his magnetic performance
wouldbeastellarfit.ThedynamichasbeenseenbeforewiththelikesofTonySopranofromThe
SopranosandWalterWhiteinBreakingBad,andgivingtheplayertheopportunitytoplayassuch
acharacterwouldraisesomeinterestingmoralchoices.Ontheflipside,DiCapriocandowonders
withblackcomedy;justlookatTheWolfofWallStreetitwasoneofhisfinestperformancesto
date, and if he could replicate the role of a millionaire playboy in a video game, theres a series
alreadyouttherethatcouldaccommodatesucharoleeasily;GrandTheftAuto.
4.ChristophWaltz
ChristophWaltzmayonlybeknowntoEnglishspeakingmoviegoersforhisperformancesinDjango
UnchainedandIngloriousBasterds,buttheresareasonhewonbestsupportingactorOscarsfor
bothfilms.WhetheritstheSSofficerHansLandaordentistturnedbountyhunterDr.KingSchultz
you prefer, Waltzs performances in both were outstanding. He could very convincingly play a
character similar to BioShocks Frank Fontaine/Atlas, and his ability to switch between a warm,
caringpersonalitytooneofmaliceandcruelintentwouldworkwonderfullyinavideogameworld.
Hedoesnthavetoplayadualpersonalitycharacterthough.IfWaltzweretoborrowsomequalities
from his Dr. Schultz character, he could easily play the part of a mentor or companion that the
playerformsanemotionalattachmentto.
3.MarionCotillard
MarionCotillardisprobablythemostobscureentryinthislist,butthatmakeshernolesstalented.
TheFrenchactressmostwellknownrolestoEnglishspeakingaudienceswillundoubtedlybeas
TaliaalGhulinTheDarkKnightRisesorasMalCobbinInceptionbothdirectedbyChristopher
Nolan. Miss. Cotillards talents would make her an excellent choice for a femme fatale role a
mysterious and seductive woman who ultimately has a hidden agenda revolving around the
manipulationofmen.SimilartoherseductionofBruceWayneinDarkKnightRises,Cotillardwould
makeanexcellentcharacterincyberpunkorneonoirtitleslikeDeusEx:HumanRevolutionasthe
ownerofashadycorporation.ButthatsnottheonlyroleMarioncouldbeexcellentatperforming.
Her characters may have a small reputation as being seductresses, but when she performs the
pleasantsideofTaliainDarkKnightRises,theactressappearsaskind,funnyandapproachable.
Shewouldhavetobegivenadigitalhaircutfortherole,butifUbisoftevergoaheadwithasequel
toBeyondGood&Evil,MarionCotillardwouldmakeanexcellentleadasprotagonistJade.
2.RobertDowneyJr.
RobertDowneyJr.maybeknownforhisbrilliantwitandabilitytoprovideclassycomicreliefto
tensesituationsasTonyStarkintheIronManseries,buttheactorisextremelyversatile,ableto
provide serious performances that mirror his sassy wit perfectly. Its for this reason that the
performerwouldmakeanexcellentsupportingcharacterforagamesmainprotagonist,inmuch
thesamewayasSethGreenwaswithJokerintheMassEffectseries.Bynomeansdoesthisimply
Downey Jr. could only perform a supporting role. He could just as easily play a leading role in
RockstarsGrandTheftAutogames.ForaseriesthatpridesitselfonitssatireofAmericanculture,
havingDowneyJr.playacharacterintheirintricatelycraftedworldswouldbeagreatfitforthe
actor.
1.EvaGreen
ThesecondFrenchactresstofeatureonthislist,EvaGreenoozesclassoutofeveryporeaquality
thatprobablyhelpedherearntheroleofVesperLyndinCasinoRoyale.Playingamoderntakeon
the now outdated Bond Girl stereotype, Eva Greens character in that film earned her critical
successandpraiseforherexcellentportrayalofastrongfemalecharacterinaBondfilm.Withthe
aboveinmind,theresnosurprisethattheactresshasmadenumberoneonthislist.Withother
filmssuchasKingdomofHeavenandtheupcomingSinCity:ADametoKillFortohername,theres
nodenyingthatshewouldbeanexcellentfitforgrittycyberandsteampunktitlessetindystopian
worlds. She would make an excellent (and strong) female lead in games like Dishonored or
AssassinsCreedrivallingSamusAranorthenewlyrebootedTombRaideronthescaleofstrong
femalecharacters.
