Act I
The musical opens at the Delta Nu sorority house in UCLA where Margot, Serena and
Pilar are celebrating the news that campus dreamboat arner !untington """ is set to
propose to their blonde president, #lle oods$ As the speculate on the details o% the
engagement, #lle is at the mall, shopping %or the per%ect out%it &'(migod )ou *uys+,$
A%ter she is -uic. to chec. a snooty sales girl, #lle is prepared %or her romantic dinner
with arner, who she thin.s is about to /pop0 the -uestion$ "nstead o% declaring his lo1e,
he tells her that he is loo.ing %or a more 'Serious+ girl%riend that will help him succeed as
he mo1es to !ar1ard Law School$ #lle is heartbro.en and comes up with a plan to %ollow
him to !ar1ard in order to pro1e him wrong$ The girls point out that getting into !ar1ard
Law School is no easy tas., and they help her study %or her LSATs to boost her
application$ A%ter her parents agree to %und her studying, #lle prepares a uni-ue personal
essay and surprises the admissions team by telling them that it is lo1e that has moti1ated
her career change, &'hat )ou ant+,$
A%ter being accepted onto the prestigious course, #lle is alarmed at her snobby classmates
who disappro1e o% her pin. attire, per.y attitude and adorable dog 2ruiser, &'The !ar1ard
3ariations+,$ !er teaching assistant #mmett 4orrest is the only person who is .ind to her,
but he cannot sa1e her %rom Pro%essor Callahan who teaches the class the only way to
succeed in law is to be a shar., &'2lood in the ater+,$ #lle is dismissed %rom his class
5ust as she meets arner0s new lo1e interest 3i1ienne 6ensington$ #lle is distraught to
%ind out that he has a new girl%riend, especially someone with %lat hair and chest$ At a
moment o% relati1e tragedy, her sorority girls arri1e as a /gree. chorus0 to con1ince her
that e1erything will be %ine, i% only she stays 'Positi1e+$ #lle decides that her blonde hair
is holding her bac., and heads to the !air A%%air salon to ma.e a drastic change$ !ead
beautician Paulette warns her against such a drastic choice, instead o%%ering her own
words o% wisdom about what to do when li%e gets you down, &'"reland+,$ 3i1ienne in1ites
#lle to a costume party, and #lle decides to stay blonde thin.ing she has %inally made a
%riend$
#lle arri1es at the party dressed as a Playboy 2unny and realises she was tric.ed by
3i1ienne$ She embraces her bold decision and tries to win o1er arner despite her attire$
As she lea1es in a rage, she runs into #mmett who tries to console her but teaches her that
she needs to win arner0s respect by not trying too hard, &'Chip on My Shoulder+,$ ith
this new attitude, she manages to de%eat him during a classroom debate and she goes on
to help Paulette with a legal problem that builds her con%idence$ As the class scramble to
recei1e one o% Callahan0s co1eted internship positions, arner proposes to 3i1ienne in
%ront o% #lle$ hilst she begins to thin. that e1erything has been a waste o% time, #mmett
points out that she too has earned one o% the positions and she decides that e1erything is
'So Much 2etter+ than be%ore$
Act II
The act opens with %itness guru 2roo.e yndham showing o%% her latest wor.out 1ideo
which is being watched by Callahan, #lle and their legal team, &'hipped "nto Shape+,$
2roo.e is being accused o% murdering her husband, and the legal team, which includes
arner and 3i1ienne, go to the prison to in1estigate$ 2roo.e ma.es a connection with
#lle, as they were both Dela Nu0s, and she tells her that she is being %ramed, because at
the time o% the incident she was getting liposuction$ #lle promises to .eep her secret,
e1en though it could sa1e her %rom 5ail$ She promises to thin. o% another way to get her
out$ #lle0s loyalty annoys the rest o% the team and they shun #lle and #mmett$ #lle ta.es
him to a department store and gi1es him a ma.eo1er, telling him to 'Ta.e it Li.e a Man+$
At Paulette0s salon, the hun.y UPS deli1ery guy arri1es with a pac.age %or Paulette$ The
sorority girls arri1e to teach Paulette how to '2end and Snap+ to win her man, and as she
tries she ends up .noc.ing him out$
2roo.e0s trial gets underway and we see 2roo.e0s pool boy gi1ing e1idence about his
lo1e a%%air with 2roo.e$ She denies the claim, and a%ter #lle per%orms the bend and snap
in %ront o% him she realises he must be gay$ #lle rushes to tell Callahan but no one
belie1es her and they debate whether he is '*ay or #uropean7+ #mmett ta.es to the %loor
and -uestions him, getting him to admit that he is actually gay AND #uropean$
As the legal team celebrate arner is dismissi1e o% #lle0s success, and Callahan
reprimands him, sending him out to buy co%%ee$ As the others lea1e he comes onto #lle
and %orcibly .isses her, but arner and 3i1ienne both see through the door, misreading
the situation thin.ing that #lle has led him on$ hilst 3i1ienne sees #lle slap Callahan,
she doesn0t say anything to arner$ #lle is le%t de5ected once again and as she plans to go
home, realises she is in lo1e with #mmett, 'Legally 2londe+$
#lle goes to say %arewell to Paulette but the girls con1ince her to go bac. to her pin.
dress and parade bac. to the courtroom a%ter she helps Paulette per%ect the bend and snap
to win the heart o% 6yle$ 2roo.e %ires Callahan and ta.e on #lle as her attorney, alongside
#mmett$ 2roo.e0s stepdaughter Chutney ta.es the stand and tells the 5udge how she
stepped out o% the shower to see 2roo.e standing o1er the body o% her %ather$ #lle spots
an error in the story and the scene shi%ts to the bathroom where the crime allegedly too.
place$ #lle tells the court that Chutney couldn0t ha1e been in the shower as her perm, that
she had 5ust had done that day, remained still in tact$ Under the -uestioning she con%esses
that she .iller her %ather mista.ing him %or 2roo.e$
As they all celebrate #lle0s success, arner proposes to her$ Although it is what she came
to !ar1ard %or, #lle realises she has changed and says that she will '4ind !er ay+$ The
action mo1es to three years later as #lle graduates as 1aledictorian$ She proposes to
#mmett who accepts, and we see that e1eryone has had a happy ending, aside %rom
arner, &'4inale+,$
