The

Year 1.
Children will continue to develop their phonic knowledge to
help read unfamiliar words. They will also develop writing &
spelling skills to help them become independent writers.
Fiction texts used will be stories with familiar settings
children will learn how to structure their own simple stories
with a beginning, middle & end. The focus of non-fiction will
be: labels, lists, captions and poems based on the senses.
Every day the children will practice & develop their oral
& mental skills: e.g. counting, estimating, adding &
subtracting. They will also learn to:
Count accurately at least 20 objects.
Compare & order 2 or more numbers.
Use symbols to record addition & subtraction.
Name & describe 2d & 3d shapes.
Once a week the children will visit the school library.
Children cannot select a new book without returning
their old one first.
The children will develop & enhance their skills in Dance
through the themes of Streamers & Conkers making
different shapes, moving in different directions & linking
movements. P.E. will take place every Wednesday afternoon.
The children will have opportunities to:
Learn about Gods great plan.
Appreciate the beauty of Gods World and explore &
respond to the wonders of creation e.g. the seasons.
Creation story & Noahs Ark.
P.S.H.C.E.: SEALS: Theme New Beginnings.
Theme: Sounds Interesting Exploring Sounds.

The children will learn songs to focus listening and to
recognise a variety of sounds. Use their bodies &
hands to make a musical score.
Human & Physical (Barnaby Bear.)
Identify seasonal and daily weather patterns in the
United Kingdom and the location of hot and cold
areas of the world in relation to the Equator and the
North and South Poles.

This half-term the children will be taught how to form:
i, l. t, j, u and y using a cursive style. These letters of the
alphabet belong to (The Long Ladders Family.)
Theme: We are treasure hunters.
Using Programmable Toys
Understand what algorithms are; how they are
implemented as programs on digital devices;
and that programs execute by following
precise and unambiguous instructions.

The children will receive daily Phonic sessions
using the Letters & Sounds Six Phase Teaching
Programme which commenced in Nursery.
