"We police girls, we praise girls for virginity, but we don't praise boys
for virginity. And it's always made me wonder exactly how this is
supposed to work out because..." [17:03-17:16]
THIS IMPOSSIBLE CONTRADICTION DISCUSSED BY
CHIMAMANDA ADICHIE IN HER TEDX TALK WE SHOULD ALL BE
FEMINISTS IS NOTHING NEW, THE PROSTITUTE HAS LONG BEEN
RENDERED SOCIETYS UNTOUCHABLE. CRAFTING FEMALE
SEXUALITY AS A BIOPOLITICAL ISSUE IN NEED OF REGULATION
ELEMENTALLY RELIES ON PROSTITUTIONS CRIMINALIZATION
IN THE NAME OF CREATING A CIVIL SOCIAL BODY.
Scott, 2011 [John, Associate Professor, School of Behavioural and Cognitive and Social
Sciences at the University of New England, Governing Prostitution: Differentiating the Bad
from the Bad, Current Issues in Criminal Justice, Vol 23 No 1,
http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/journals/CICrimJust/2011/17.pdf, BJM]
During the Middle Ages prostitutes were often viewed throughout Western Europe as
untouchables ,
AND
through criminal apparatuses which sought to produce a civil and healthy social body.
THE SUBJUGATION OF THE PROSTITUTE IS THE CONDITION OF
POSIBILITY FOR ALL MODERN WOMENS SUBORDINATION.
HOWEVER, CONTEMPORARY, SINGLE ISSUE POLITICAL
DISCOURSE BELIES THIS TRUTH.

THE HOBBY LOBBY DECISION IS DISCUSSED IN TERMS OF
RELIGIOUS FREEDOM. WHEN THERE ARE 30 MEN AT OFFICE
HOURS IN MY COMPUTATIONAL MATHEMATICS CLASS BUT IM
THE ONE TOLD ITS NOT MY FAULT MY BRAIN ISNT WIRED FOR
THAT STUFF WE CHALK IT UP TO NECESSARY EDUCATIONAL
REFORM. WHEN MY COLLEAGUES LEAN IN ABOUT 15 INCHES
TOO CLOSE TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE CODE ON MY COMPUTER
WE DISCUSS THE NECESSITY OF PROFESSIONALISM.

BUT THE FEMALE CONDITION CANNOT BE EFFECTIVELY
DECONSTRUCTED OR DISCUSSED IN THIS WAY BECAUSE THE
FULLEST DIMENSIONS OF OUR EXPLOITATION ARE
CONSTRUCTED FROM THE BASE OF OUR PERSISTENT VISCERAL
AND SEXUAL EXPLOITATION. UNDERSTANDING THE
DOMINATION OF WOMEN DEMANDS A RADICAL EMBRACE OF
THE PERSONAL AS POLITICAL AND THE PROSITUTE AS
FOUNDATIONAL. FAILING TO DO SO DESTROYS REVOLUTIONARY
POTENTIAL.
Barry, 1995 [Kathleen, PhD; Professor Emerita, Penn State University, The Prostitution of
Sexuality, New York University Press, p, 10-12, BJM]
In the 1990s we have found that in the United States women's issues have become
AND
sexuality is prostituted worldwide today in order to secure the domination of
women.
LETS TALK ABOUT HOW SO MANY AND TOO MANY THINGS
FRAMED AS PROTECTING OR RESPECTING WOMEN ARE REALLY
JUST REINFORCEMENTS OF DOMINANT, PATRIARCHAL
STRUCTURES; THINLY VEILED WAYS TO AFFIRM THE ALL
POWERFUL NATURE OF A VIOLENT MASCULINITY.

ABOUT HOW THE ONLY WAY I CAN GET A BOY TO BACK OFF AT A
PARTY IS BY TELLING HIM I HAVE A BOYFRIEND, AND THEN
THEY ARE CONSIDERED RESPECTABLE FOR BACKING OFF SINCE
AMAN HAS PUT A STAKE IN ME. FORGET THAT I MIGHT BE
AUTONOMOUS HES GREAT FOR NOT CUCKOLDING MY
BOYFRIEND. LETS TALK ABOUT HOW PEOPLE TELL ME THE
REASON I HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT IS BECAUSE I HAVE
ENOUGH GUYS WILLING TO BEAT UP ANYBODY WHO MESSES
WITH ME. ABOUT THE COLLEAGUE WHO SAID MY DEDICATION
TO CREATING SAFE SPACES FOR WOMEN OF COLOR IN TECH
MADE HIM UNCOMFORTABLE BECAUSE HES A WHITE BOY WHO
REALLY JUST WANTS TO HELP ME OUT BUT CANT DO IT WHEN I
EXCLUDE HIM LIKE THAT.

THIS LOGIC IS REPLICATED IN THE LEGAL SYSTEM. LEGAL
FOCUS FAILS BECAUSE STATE-SANCTIONED RELATIONSHIPS
NEVER ACTUALLY PROTECT WOMEN, RATHER THEY CONTINUE
TO REGULATE WOMENS BODIES. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT WE
REJECT JURIDICIAL LIMITS ON FEMALE SEXUALITY AND
INSTEAD FOCUS ON THE CRIMINALIZATION OF THE POWER TO
ABUSE.

Sex radicals argue that whore sexuality can help to liberate women and men from
AND
best used in conjunction with the socialist sex-as-work analyses.

PROSTITUTION IS THE ESSENCE OF MALE DOMINATION: THE
ABILITY TO BUY A HUMAN LIFE AND ERASE ITS IMPORTANCE
FROM EVERY ASPECT OF CIVIL AND SOCIAL CONSCIOUSNESS.
THE PROSTITUTES IMPORTANCE IS REDUCED TO A VESSEL OF
ESTABLISHING COMMONALITY BETWEEN MEN.

KNOWING THE PROSTITUTE IS KEY TO UNDOING SYSTEMS OF
FEMALE SUBORDINATION BECAUSE IT IS THIS LOGIC WHICH
UNDERLIES ALL FORMS OF FEMALE EXPLOITATION. WHEN ELLA
AND I HEAR OF RESPECTED DEBATERS BACKCHANNELING BOYS
WE KNOW ABOUT HOW MUCH THEY WOULD LIKE TO BONE US
WITHOUT EVEN ASKING ABOUT OUR NAMES WE ARE REDUCED
TO A COMMONALITY BETWEEN MEN. WHEN MY MALE JUDGE
TOLD ME IN MY FIRST YEAR AT DEBATE CAMP THAT WOMEN
ARE EITHER BITCHES OR PUSHOVERS IN CROSS EX AND IM
WAYY TOO FAR ON THE BITCHY SIDE, WHEN IM ESSENTIALLY
TOLD THAT SETTING MYSELF UP FOR SUCCESS NECESSITATES A
DENIAL OF MY FEMINITY, WHEN I HAD A MALE PARTNER AND
COULDNT HELP BUT NOTICE THE ISOLATION I FELT WHEN
PEOPLE WANTED TO TALK TO HIM BUT ABOUT ME, WHEN
RESPECTED MALE COACHES COMPLEMENT MY DRESS INSTEAD
OF MY DEBATING I AM CONSISTENTLY REDUCED TO A MALES
EVALUATION.

THE WOMENS CHOICE IS TO STAND WITH THE ABUSER OR TO
REBEL. ELLA AND I CHOOSE THE RADICAL OPTION. WE CHOOSE
TO KNOW THE PROSTITUTE AND REFUSE TO PERFORM FELLATIO
ON THE LEGAL SYSTEM.
Dworkin, 94 [Andrea, Writer & Activist, Prostitution and Male Supremacy,
http://www.sextrade101.com/docs/articles/article1.pdf, BJM]
The assumptions of academia can barely begin to imagine the reality of life for women
AND
. These are choices. I am asking you to make a choice.
Mixed Excerpt from Chimamandas Speech

Thus, Ella and I affirm the Prostitute. Affirming the prostitute
actuates female consciousness and allows us to reimagine a society
rid of masculinity, abuse, and domination.

The prostitute is a body in abjection, simultaneously represented as a
failed, dirty subject, and as a desirable object. This bifurcation gives
way to a whole range of oppressive regulations, and commodification
of the female body.
Maggie O'Neill and Lizzie Sea, 2012, Transgressive Imaginations: Crime, Deviance and
Culture, p.6
A related concept to the cultural constructions of transgression documented above is the 'abject'.
AND
of course intimately related to the power of the imagination and the imaginary.
THE IDENTIY OF THE PROSTITUTE IS REALIZED ONLY THROUGH
THE CORPORAL NEGATION OF SEXUAL EXPLOITATION. ELLA
AND I ENDORSE AFFIRMING THE PROSTITUTE AS A
TRANSFORMATIVE TRANSGRESSION. BENEATH AND
PREREQUISITE TO ANY GENUINE LEGAL RIGHTS IS THE ETHICAL
GESTURE OF AFFIRMING A NEGATIVE IDENTITY TO COUNTER
HEGEMONIC DISCOURSE.
Bell, 94 [Shannon, Professor and Graduate Programme Director in the York University
Political Science Department, Reading, Writing, and Rewriting the Prostitute Body, p.99-102,
BJM]
In postmodernity, the prostitute has emerged simultaneously as a new political subject and as
AND
as is concretely indicated by the divergent ideological positions of its two founders.
THE AFFIRMATION OF THE PROSTITUTE IS OUR IMPOSSIBLE
DEMAND. IT IS ENVISIONING A REALITY BEYOND THE
SEEMINGLY IMMUTABLE CONDITIONS OF PATRIARCHAL
DOMINATION OF THE STATUS QUO. TO AFFIRM THE PROSTITUTE
WITHOUT THE SEXUAL EXPLOITATION OF PROSTITUTION IS THE
REVOLUTIONARY VISION BY WHICH CHANGE CAN BE
ACTUALIZED IT IS THE DISCIPLINE TO AFFIRM THE
IMPOSSIBLE WHILE REMAINING GROUNDED IN THE
COLLECTIVE EXPERIENCE OF WOMEN IT IS THE FEMINIST
STRUGGLE BORNE FROM THE FEMINIST CONSCIOUSNESS. IT IS
THE CRITICAL FIRST STEP.
Barry, 1995 [Kathleen, PhD; Professor Emerita, Penn State University, The Prostitution of
Sexuality, New York University Press, p, 316-320, BJM]
A world without prostitution. . . . To imagine it is like imagining a
AND
is the manifestation of that other new reality

"I am angry. Gender as it functions today is a grave injustice--we
should all be angry. Anger has a long history of bringing about
positive change, but in addition to being angry I am also
hopeful. Because I believe deeply in the ability of human beings to
make and remake themselves for the better." [10:26-10:45]
