“Filipino!

Ikaw, ako, tayo”

1. How will you describe the character development of Nicolas, from being a naive peasant to becoming
one of the members of a society different from what he used to be? Do you think a person like Nicolas
still exists in this period?

Nicolas' life has changed when his parents died, it changed him to become a different person. The
moment he leaves his home is the moment where his life will change. He encounters different things. By
accepting the priest's mission to take his son to Manila, he experienced many things together with the
priest’s son little by little changing his old life. When Nicolas and the priest’s son reach Manila, that
changes Nicolas' life even more; he gets rewarded with a big fancy house and an abundance of
possessions. After he becomes rich, He meets different people that teach him different lessons. Diding
teaches him how some people just want to use him for what he has. Don Tibor teaches Nicolas to fight
for himself in a valorous duel. Nicolas also witnesses a murder of a guard by a rebel. After he got thrown
in prison many things had happened, Nicolas realized that even with all the wealth he had, it didn’t make
him any happier. It's possible that a person like Nicolas still exists in this period, there are people in this
world that still haven't experienced many other things. Either good or bad.

2. Don Tibor, Diding and Bindoy are three of the characters who played huge part on Nicolas’ life in the
film. How would you describe his relationship with each of them given the fact that he met all of them by
chance. (7 points)

Don Tibor, he’s the atty. Of the priest. He and Nicolas are close, but Don Tibor always lies about where
Diding is. But in the end he still helped Nicolas to get his possessions back and Nicolas also helped Don
Tibor when he got paralyzed. So I think they still think of each other as acquaintances.

He met Diding in a theatre, and he fell in love with her but he was also betrayed and used by her. But in
the end even though Diding had gotten truly in love with Nicolas, he set her free. He learn things by
falling in love with Diding that how some people just want to use him for what he has.

The Priest’s son is Bindoy, where the priest told Nicolas to help his son to reach Manila. Nicolas and
Bindoy became friends and because of Bindoy his life changed and he experienced many different things.
Also Nicolas insisted Bindoy to study because Nicolas got belittled by others because he didn't get to
study. He doesn't want the same thing to happen to Bindoy.
3. As a person living in the modern era, what is your interpretation on the way this film touched the topic
of being a Filipino, and compare it to how Filipinos in the present define their own nationality. (8 points)

Then there was racism about being Tagalog and being in other parts of the country. But now I think
there are some that are still racist against another Filipino. There is this thing I always saw on Facebook
or in Phone games, Tagalog people are fighting against Bisaya people. I don’t know if it's a joke but still
it’s not right. But I think, now it has improved. Because I can see the unity and the care of each other
wherever and whatever the side of the Philippines you are.
