MAC650 Gallery
Sept./Oct. 2014
I make pictures of people, the things they make, and the places they work.
At Jackson Laboratory, what they made was their place of work.

The photos in this exhibit are part of a diverse body of images made from
2013-2014 during construction of the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic
Medicine at UCONN Farmington. Through these images I explored the
interrupted workspaces of a construction site and the passing aspects of
the assemblies, tasks, and equipment found there. My goal was to reveal
the challenging, vibrant, often tedious, and incremental nature of
construction; as such, these images form a log, albeit incomplete, of the
means and methods of work employed in the construction of JAX.

These photos also reveal my attraction to the minutia, inherent messiness
and apparent chaos of construction, and my appreciation of the fact that
every building is assembled by people by hand with cool tools. These still-life
portraits of random and disorderly spaces, made often at the end of the
workday or on lunch breaks, celebrate construction as a transitory art form.

Inside the Monster Mind
Come join us at the MAC650
Gallery as we celebrate all of our
favorite monsters during the
Halloween weekend. Explore
monsters of all sorts in art while
learning about their origins in
cultures around the world.

Wednesday the 29th we will be
having live readings of horror short
stories, and poetry. Thursday the
30th there will be a screening and
talk back session about the origins
of Vampire lore in New England
with the filmmakers behind the
new documentary, "Vampires of
New England." And don't miss out
on our jam-packed Halloween
night festivities with live zombie
make-up tutorials, "Thriller" dance
lessons, a zombie pub-crawl and
more. - Jeanette Andriulli
April Verch
April Verch has never sounded
more comfortable in her skin than
she does now, in the second
decade of her career as an
internationally touring Canadian
fiddler, step dancer and singer-
songwriter. Her ninth album, Bright
Like Gold, captures a woman
whos fleshed out her identity and
is in full command of her gifts, a
woman whos grown from a
prodigy into an enduring artist
one of musics most unforgiving
public transitions with grace and
grit to spare.

Buttonwood Benefit
Join us for a fun evening with
music, a tribute, performance by
the National Theater of the Deaf,
delicious food and a silent auction
in three locations! In 2009 we
honored our founder, Susan Allison
at four venues and it was a fun
experience. Now well honor our
newly retired board president,
John Basinger and present
performers who played The
Buttonwood Tree in the early days
when we were located on Rapallo
Ave from 1989 1995. This event
will go from 7 to 11 pm, at three
venues: TBT, MAC 650 Art Gallery
and at the CHC Community
Health Center. There will also be a
special meet and greet on the
CHC rooftop garden with John
Basinger and special friends.

Bad Music
Bad Music is a series of paintings by
Bristol born artist Peter Adrian
Albano. The images in this work
contain Albanos satirical
interpretations of the
contemporary social condition.
Graphic, chaotic, crude and often
political, Bad Music intends to
describe its subject matter as
things that should be harmonious,
and are anything but-. Peter
