Parent and Athlete Assi stance

It has been pleasing to see the increase in
assistance at club days coming not only from
the parents, but also the athletes themselves.
Last Friday night we were again very short
handed in the regular volunteers, with Rob
Murchie pretty much by himself for the setup.
Thankfully some athletes and parents came
down to lend a hand at the last minute and we
managed to get the club day started pretty
much on time.

Again when it came to pack up there were not
too many sticking around, but thankfully a
small group of our athletes (pictured below)
jumped in and helped us pack up the gear.

So whilst we are at the very end of our club
season, and trying to ramp up involvement can
be a lost cause given we are about to finish for
the year, it is worthwhile just remembering that
next year the club will see a few of those who
are there early at almost every club day will no
longer be as involved, which means new
people will need to step forward to ensure the
club continues to be able to serve our
members.

Committee Positions
Following on from the comments above it is
pertinent to go into some detail the structure of
the committee for 2015.

Firstly for those who did not know, the club
changed the reporting year to calendar year (in
lieu of financial year) for the 2014 season.

This means that our AGM is now held in
J anuary rather than in October.

So with that in mind we are aware that firstly
the AGM may not be well attended, and
secondly that people who may consider taking
on a committee position may have a change of
circumstance in the last three months of the
year.

With all that said, with the final club day upon
us we need to call for interest for committee
positions.

A quick check of the current committees
intentions for the 2015 season saw at least five
positions that will become vacant. Nominations
for these positions may be receive from
current committee members in other positions,
but regardless if this occurs the need for
additional committee members, some to take
on significant roles, cannot be understated.

Vacant Positions in 2015
President
Secretary
Vice President
Carnival Coordinator
Recorder
Canteen Coordinator
First Aide Officer
Equipment Officers

Attached to this newsletter is a role description
for all committee positions, which I encourage
all to read whether they are considering taking
on a role, or not.

What are you able to do?
It can be easy to sit back and think someone
else will take care of it, but the truth is that
unless quite a few people come forward in
2015 to take on these roles the club will not be
able to function.

On a positive side this can be a turning point
for the club, one which sees an injection of
new ideas and enthusiasm.

Break up
A reminder that a flyer regarding the breakup
and presentation day has been sent out, and a
RSVP is required for the club to arrange
trophies. If you cant make it, but let us know,
we will still arrange for any trophy / award that
you may have been receiving. However if you
dont RSVP by thi s Sunday then no trophies
will be ordered for you.

LAQ Regionals - Tolga
Congratulations to those athletes who travelled
to Tolga last weekend for the Little Athletics
carnival.

Whilst no results have come through from LAQ
I have heard that many of our athletes did well,
including some who qualified for the Little
Athletics State Championships in March.

And well done to Tablelands Athletics Club for
hosting their second carnival for the year, and
again providing that fantastic country
hospitality.

And to our officials from Cairns Athletics who
travelled to Tolga to officiate over the two days
your efforts continue to see the region being
able to hold competitions for all of our athletes.

2015 Club Captains
Nominations are now open for the 2015 Cairns
Athletics Club Captains. For 2015, we are
calling for written nominations for athletes in
the following groups:

Junior Club Captain: Those athletes that are
12 or 13 years old as at the 31st December
2014 are invited to nominate for the J unior
Club Captain

Senior Club Captain: Those athletes 14
years old and over as at the 31st December
2014 are invited to nominate for the Senior
Club Captain

Nomination forms will be available at the
Registration Desk and should be lodged
personally by each interested athlete.
Nominations close on Friday 19th
September.

ANQ Track and Fi eld Championships
As of last week Cairns Athletics had only 20
athletes nominated to attend the pinnacle of
carnivals in North Queensland.

Whilst accommodation is a bit scarce there is
still some nearby hotels with vacancies, so
dont leave it to the last minute.

The ANQ Championships offers plenty for
athletes of all ages and abilities. For those 12
to 19 years of age who are looking towards
representative athletics you can have the
opportunity to qualify for the Australian J unior
Championships by placing first or second in
your event.

Though just as welcomed and encouraged as
those athletes who just want to get out and
have fun and challenge themselves in what will
be the largest field of athletes in the region.

All athletes from 4 104 are welcomed and
encouraged to come down to Townsville and
mix with other athletes from the ANQ region
and in many cases further afield.

ANQ Track and Field Championships will be
held from the 3
rd
to 5
th
October, 2014. Online
nominations are now on the ANQ
website, www.athleticsnorthqld.org.au with
nominations closing 28 September 2014.

Training
This will be the last training for the season this
week, except for those athletes who are
nominated for the ANQ Championships, or
Queensland School Championships.

Members Survey
As mentioned at the start of the year the club
was trying a few different things, so as we
approach the end of the season we thought it
was worth while checking with our members
on their experiences with the club this year.

Attached is a survey which you can complete
and email back to
enquiries@cairnsathletics.org.au or drop it into
the survey box up at the registration desk this
club night.

With a significant change to the committee in
2015 this is a great opportunity to help provide
some feedback on what changes might be
required to the club to allow it to better serve
you, our members.
