Title: Director of Communications



Department: Communications
Status: FT/Exempt
Supervises: Communications Department
Reports to: Associate Rector

Position Summary:

The Director of Communications is responsible for the leadership, management, and creative direction of
a team in order to deliver effective messages through a consistent brand to both internal and external
audiences. As a senior leadership position, the Director has input in the strategic planning of church wide
programs and events. In the immediate term, this position will oversee new projects related to the Christ
Church brand and web presence while assisting the Rector (Senior Pastor) with specific communication
pieces related to vision and generosity.

Major Responsibilities/Activities:
Departmental Leadership Oversees and manages team members and departmental budget. This
includes weekly leadership, annual reviews, and working with HR on personnel decisions. It also includes
working with outside agencies and freelancers, when needed.
Creative Direction Oversees weekly printed and electronic publications, media productions (sermon
videos and feature videos), and communications for special events/programs. This includes maintenance
of website, social media, and mobile platforms.
Project Management Serves as the primary point of contact with other Christ Church departments
and oversees the internal workflow of the communications department. This may include taking on
specific projects related to graphic design and web development.
Content Creation Composes original content and contributes to regular publications. Responds
directly to content creation needs and special projects from the Rector with special emphasis on utilizing
the cycles and church calendar to build up and move forward a culture of generosity and giving.
Other Ensures quality control of all communication department projects and deliverables in a fast-
paced environment. Serves as a key liaison with media outlets and outside vendors. Also, participates in
church wide leadership team meetings and strategic planning.
Minimum Job Requirements:

Education: College degree in communication or related field.
Experience: Relevant experience necessary in communications, project management,
budgeting, and team management in a multi-departmental organization.

Expected work days/hours:

The Director of Communication typically works a 40+ hour week and is typically reachable by e=mail or
cell phone 24/7, except on official vacation days. Because of the deadline-driven nature of the work, the
directors hours may vary from day-to-day to accommodate changing workflow. This may require work to
be done during early mornings, late evenings and occasional weekends from a home office.
