A Report on School Prize Giving Day of SK Engkelili No 1 2011
The school Annual Prize Giving Day of SK Engkelili No. 1 was organised by Parent Teachers Association at Lubok Antu District Council Hall in Engkelili. It was held on 19 th
November 2011. The objectives of this event was an attempt to raise fund for school development, strengthen the relationships between the parents, support staff and teachers and community leaders and recognises the achievements of the students in curriculum and extra- curriculum activities. There were 300 guest attended the ceremony consisted of the parents and the community leaders. Great preparations were made several days before the fixed date. Invitations were extended to various respected guest. Among the guests invited were the Honourable Tuan Jelaing Mersat, Assistant Minister of Malaysia Transportation, the Honourable, Tuan William Nyalau ak Badak, Members of Parliament P. 302 Lubok Antu and the Honourable, Dr. Johnnical Rayong, State Assembly N. 28 Engkelili. They were among invited to preside over the function and to give away the prizes. The school also invited the community leaders such as the penghulu and the longhouse leaders from various longhouses nearby the school. A day before the fixed date, a gotong royong was held by the teachers with the help from the parents. The hall was decorated with Buntings and flowers. Necessary seat arrangement was also made in the big hall of Lubok Antu District Council. Everybody was busy with their tasks. On the day of the event, everybody was so excited. The ceremony began at 10.00 am. By 8.00 am, the guests started to crowded the hall. The ceremony began with singing the national anthem, Negaraku, followed by Sarawak anthem, Ibu Pertiwiku and the school song. After that, a prayer was recited by Ustaz Mustapa. Then, the headmaster, Mr Malau gave his welcoming speech followed by a speech from the president of Parent Teachers Association, Mr Brundi. Lastly, the guest listened to the speech by the honourable Tuan Nyalau ak Badak, the Assistant Minister of Malaysia Transportation. In his speech, all three of the honourable has contributed funds amounting RM35, 000 for our school development and welfare. Thanks and gratitude on behalf of the honourable willingness to contribute funds for a very meaningful event. These funds would be used for the benefit of students and school in general. 2
Next, the audiences were entertained by the performance by Year 6 pupils with Poco-Poco dance. It was coordinated by Madam Irene with the help of other teachers. The activities were held in between the prize giving ceremony. The prizes were given to the pupils who achieve high performance in every subject from Year 1 to year 6. On the other hand, those achieve good performance in extra-curricular activities also rewarded. The highlight of the ceremony was the announcement of the best student in curricular and extra-curricular respectively. Adik Jonathan ak Baji was the best student in curricular while Adik Natasha ak Roland was elected as best student of extra-curricular. The prizes were given away to the achievers presided by the honourable. The ceremony ended by the performance from Year 6 pupils with their 1 Malaysia dance. After the prize giving ceremony, the honourable guest and the parents with teachers had lunch. Then, they proceeded to the exhibition held in the hall about school activities, school achievement in academic and non-academic and school history. The activity was not end there but continued with karaoke session at 3 pm. It was organised by the school prefects. The aim of this activity was to raise funds for the school prefects. Besides that, it was organised to enable the teachers, students and parents to have fun time with each other. Each participant paid RM10 per song they sang. Through this activity, they collected RM530. This money will be used for any activities related to the school prefects. Overall, the function was very smooth and runs in festive atmosphere and harmony. The ceremony ended at 5 pm. All who attended were satisfied with this event. Well done and congratulation to those involved directly or indirectly in this function.
