NOTABLE KHANS IN HISTORY
The Jags march to the beat of a diferent drum
13 drum sets to be exact. The D-Line has been
keeping fans' toes tapping since 2003. The band
plays in the area below the Bud Zone and next to
the elevators after the game on their Dynasty
Drums, the new brand of drums purchased for
the percussion posse. Andrew Nixon who, along
with Michael Patterson, co-directs the D-Line,
says the group will continue to pound out Latin,
hip-hop, Celtic and funk grooves in the 2014
season. The D-Line is made up of 18 members
carrying 5 bass drums, 5 cymbals, 5 snare drums
and 3 tenor drum sets. n

A BRIEF HISTORY OF JACKSONVILLES MUNICIPAL FOOTBALL VENUE
From a 7,600-seat football eld with metal bleachers shared by
three high school teams to the 70,000-seat home of an NFL
franchise and the worlds largest video boards, EverBank Field has
changed names and seat conguration quite a bit, but it hasnt
moved a yard in 87 years. The stadium has seen steady upgrades,
like the one in 1946 when it hosted the rst Gator Bowl and a
complete demolition in 1994 to make room for the Jags. The only
pieces of the past that remain standing are the west upper deck
and the ramp system. n

Jags DeskSite
NEW WAY TO GET TEAM HIGHLIGHTS 24/7
Missing the game doesnt have to mean you have to
wait until next Sunday to see the Jags in action. A new
video app for laptops, desktops and tablets allows fans
to access recorded Jaguars video content for free. The
Jaguars DeskSite app provides hours of HD-quality
video. Fans can watch highlights, interviews with players
and coaches, cheerleader spotlights, breaking news and
analysis. The app automatically downloads and stores
videos directly to users devices and allows one to
watch videos without being connected to the Internet.
This app isnt smartphone compatible, but is currently
available for Microsoft tablets, 10 inches or larger. n
NFL games and good times go hand-in-hand. However,
there are rules and stadium security will only let one go so
far before asking a fan to leave. With that in mind, remem-
ber the things can get you kicked out of EverBank Field:
Behavior that is unruly, disruptive, dangerous or illegal
Standing in aisles, smoking in non-smoking areas, ghting
Being drunk
Foul, abusive language or obscene gestures
Throwing stuf on the eld
Failing to follow instructions of stadium personnel
Also, there are guidelines for what fans can carry into
games. Prohibited items include, without limitation:
Professional cameras with lenses longer than six inches
Coolers or containers, including cans, cups and bottles
Beverages from outside the stadium
Knives, guns or any type of weapon or explosive
Laser pointers
Noise makers, whistles, or air horns
Pets (except service animals)
All bags (except hand-sized clutches or clear bags no
larger than 12 x 6 x 12)
Seat cushions
Smoking (except in designated area)
Sticks or poles
Infant carriers/strollers
Umbrellas
Video equipment or tape recorders

Football is a sport t for gladiators. Tough
as it is, it doesn't hurt to have cutting-edge
technology to go along with brute strength.
That's the idea behind the Jaguars' partner-
ship with Sparta Software Corporation to
implement its athlete performance and
evaluation software, SpartaTrac.
The Jags are the second NFL team (along
with the Atlanta Falcons) to use Sparta's tech-
nology to help evaluate draft talent, monitor
player fatigue and maximize players' of-eld
preparation.
Players such as 2014 draft picks Blake
Bortles and Marqise Lee will be able to record
weights and sessions in real time, log work-
out stats and access a video library to be sure
they're working out the right way. This part-
nership shows the Jaguars' commitment to
using science and technology to stay com-
petitive in the NFL, says Sparta founder Dr.
Phil Wagner. The Silicon Valley-based rm
also works with Major League Baseball's Col-
orado Rockies, the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers
and Kansas University athletics.
The newest performance application is a
continuation of the Football Technology and
Analytics group started by Tony Khan in 2012.
The Jaguars hope the new software will help
turn the ones and zeroes of binary code into
sevens and threes on gameday. n

JAGS OWNER SHAD KHAN has called the competition between NFL franchises to upgrade stadiums and provide a
better fan experience an arms race. And teams in the AFC South division are pulling out the big guns, spending
money and trying to outdo one another with new upgrades and innovations. The Houston Texans and Indianapolis
Colts have both made major additions, or built new stadiums, in the past few years, so the Tennessee Titans and
Jaguars had to catch up. Heres a look at how AFC South stadiums stack up against each other. n

Tony Boselli (1995-
2001): The first player
drafted by the franchise
in 1995 and the first
player inducted into the
Pride of the Jaguars.
The 6 7 left tackle
protected Jaguars
quarterbacks and went
to five Pro Bowls during
his career. At the height
of his success, Jack-
sonville-area McDon-
alds sold the Boselli
Burger in his honor.
Boselli was inducted in
2006.
Mark Brunell (1995-
2003): The most suc-
cessful quarterback in
Jags history, Brunell
holds every major pass-
ing record for the team,
including throwing 144
touchdowns and more
than 25,000 yards
passing during his eight
seasons with the team.
The fleet-footed lefty
also played in three
Pro Bowls. Brunell was
inducted in 2013.
Fred Taylor (1998-
2008): Drafted by the
Jaguars in 1998, Taylor
rushed for over 1,200
yards and scored 14
touchdowns his rookie
season. He went on to
rush for a franchise
record 11,271 yards
over his career. His 90-
yard run in the first
quarter of a 62-7 play-
off win over the Miami
Dolphins in 1999 will be
remembered by fans
for a long time. Taylor
was inducted in 2012.
Wayne and Delores
Weaver (1993-2012):
Jacksonville owes its
NFL franchise and the
Pride of the Jaguars
to the Weavers. The
couple lead the charge
to bring a team to Jax
and served at the first
majority owners. On
January 1, 2012, Wayne

Executive Chef at EverBank
Field, leads the stadium's
culinary team
During his 20-year career,
Hoch has cooked for venues
throughout the South. Hoch
joined Levy Restaurants Sports
& Entertainment Group in
2000 and has been with the
Jags since 2006. Over the past
14 years, he has participated in
some of the worlds largest
events including three Super
Bowls, the Kentucky Derby,
PGA golf tournaments, NHL
playofs and All-Star Games.
Hoch oversees about 150
employees each gameday.
Over the past few years,
Hoch has been working to
turn EverBank Field into a mi-
crocosm of Jacksonville dining
by bringing in local avors.
He lives in Fleming Island and
is married with two children. n
BURRITO GALLERY
This Downtown lunchtime fave ofers its popular Mexican specialties at the Touch-
down Club this year. The menu will include many of the same items at its brick-and-
mortar locations, so expect tacos, burritos and quesadillas.
BONOS BAR-B-Q
Forty years before the Jaguars were established, Bonos Bar-B-Q was smoking meats
in Jax. This season, the First Coast dining staple will bring its pit-style 'cue to venues
throughout EverBank. Fans can choose from pork and smoked turkey sandwiches,
mac and cheese or just cool of with a cup of iced tea.
COWFORDS CHICKEN SHACK + BOLD CITY BURGERS
Two food spots designed to reect local avors and history that are unique to Ever-
Bank are Cowfords Chicken Shack and Bold City Burgers. Cowford's Chicken Shack
will serve a chicken and wafe sandwich, sure to be a fan favorite. Bold City Burgers
will ofer monster-size burgers and fresh-cut fries.
DOS GATOS
Handcrafted cocktails are the name of the game at Dos Gatos, and they're bringing
those same carefully executed drinks to the stadium. They're shaking up the Down-
town bar's Orange Jalapeo Margarita, Stolen Fish, Red Dawn, Riverboat Gambler, and
the Bourbon Soul Smash. All cocktails are $15, but here's a tip from Jason Albertelli,
proprietor of Dos Gatos: "[At EverBank Field], all cocktails are priced the same, so by
drinking better spirits, you'll be negating any stadium markup," he says. "Go for the top
shelf and order doubles." n

THE TEAM'S NEW LOCKER ROOMS ARE SECOND TO NONE
WHEN TEAM OWNER SHAD KHAN
purchased the Jaguars in 2013, one
of his first priorities was to trans-
form the teams locker room into

but a room fit for a top-flight NFL

locker room is now considered one
of the most luxurious in the league.

Arguably the place to be come au-
tumnespecially if you are a young
professional and a Jaguars fanis
tailgating with the Bold City Brigade
(BCB). Founded three seasons ago,
the group was launched with the
belief that Generation Jaguar (20-
and 30-year-olds who were kids
when Jax was first awarded an NFL
franchise) was coming into its own.
BCB president John Caputo says
he could see the excitement rebuild-
ing in 2012 after a few seasons of
waning enthusiasm. I thought,
There's gotta be a way for us to har-
ness that, organize it and bring it into
something thats fun , he recalls.
BCB started with a core group of
350 members in 2012. Last season,
that number had grown to 1,700
and spawned nine more chapters in
other cities such as Washington,
D.C., New York City, Atlanta and
London. Power is in the numbers.
The more organized the masses
can be, the more productive we can
be, Caputo says.
Members pay a $20 annual fee to
be a part of the non-profit group. In
return, BCB members can partici-
pate in game-day tailgates, away-
game watch parties and package
trips to Jaguars away-game sites.
BCB made quite an impression
when it traveled to New York for the
2014 NFL Draft. We had the largest
fan group ever to attend the draft,
Caputo says.
The Jaguars see the value in the
group, too. The team organized a
special send-off at JIA for the draft-
day group and team president Mark
Lamping picked up a sizable bar tab
for BCB when it was in NYC. [The
team's] willingness to involve us and
embrace us has been great. They
recognize we offer something that
maybe they can never do. What we
have is 100 percent authentic,
Caputo says.
In 2014, BCB is planning to travel
with a group of more than 100 to
the Jaguars vs. Redskins game in
Washington, D.C., on September 14.
Also on tap: Watch parties at Engine
15 in Jacksonville Beach, and a sea-
son kick-off tailgate. Caputo hopes
that the group will change the
stereotype that the Jaguars dont
have a passionate fan base. Cer-
tainly theres no shortage of it
within the BCB.
