Our history

Aster Group's grown over the last 20 years is now one of the biggest social enterprise organisations of
its kind in England. The Group has a turnover of almost 150m and manages more than 26,000 homes in
the South and South West.
The Group originated with the formation of Sarsen Housing Association in 1995. In 2003, the Sarsen
Board recognised that to continue and diversify a Group structure needed to be adopted. In 2003 the
Group comprised: Silbury Group Ltd, Sarsen Housing Association and Ridgeway Community Housing
Association.
The success of Silbury Group led to further opportunities for growth. Building on the development
agency agreement between the two organisations, discussions took place during 2004 between Silbury
Group and Testway Housing Ltd. Following consent from the then regulator, the new Aster Group was
formed on 1 April 2005.
In the summer of 2005, Mendip Housing Ltd, with headquarters in Shepton Mallet, chose to join Aster
Group. In 2009, Mendip changed its name to become Flourish Homes Limited.
Following formal approval from the Homes and Communities Agency and the then Financial Services
Authority, Synergy Housing joined the Aster Group in November 2012.
