At SABD, we believe that research goes
hand-in-hand with teaching and learning,
as it provides a more solid foundation
and robust education of the subject
matter. Our goal is to elevate our research
centre, MASSA, into a renowned research
centre in Southeast Asia, which focuses
on scholarly activities and dissemination
of knowledge on modern architectural
heritage.
We intend to address the urgent need to include
modern architecture as part of the architectural heritage
in Southeast Asia, thus aiding the process of planning
settlements and designing buildings that are suited
to the context and continuity of the cultures of
Southeast Asia.
As part of our initiatives to document our heritage, the

examine the site and produce detailed drawings. These
drawings were subsequently used to restore a temple

The annual Activity Week allows us to travel overseas,
and as an architecture student, traveling and seeing
the different designs, buildings and artwork is truly
inspirational. I personally love to learn from experience
instead of the traditional academic approach, so the
fact that we are given the chance to travel with our
peers and lecturers, is great!

Conferences organised by
PAQS provide an avenue for
intellectual exchange and
sharing of best practices
between industry members,
academics and students.
Industry Conferences
Conferences
Conferences are fertile ground for faculty members to
gain insight into the latest industry developments and best
practices. The knowledge gained enriches the teaching
capabilities and in turn benets the students.
Some conferences also serve as a platform for students to
gain greater understanding of the industry, while encouraging
exchange of knowledge and networking between members
of the industry and students.
QS students carry out
tasks such as Elemental
Cost Analysis (ECA) during
the workshops, and obtain
valuable feedback from
the panel.
QS Workshop
Workshops
These interactive platforms are an opportunity for students to
showcase and present their work every semester, to a panel of
industry members and academics from different backgrounds.
Through the panels objective and valuable feedback, students
are able to improve their quality of work or approach.
This not only enhances the students understanding of the
subject matter, but also enables them to produce more
comprehensive work that meets the required standards.

MARCH
AUGUST
Te programme is equivalent to Part 2 of the Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia
(LAM) Professional Examination, and is a full-time professional
Masters programme that centres on the advanced study of architecture.
It takes on an integrated approach to learning architecture and adopts
the teaching philosophy of design as research. It aims to develop
well-rounded architectural graduates, leading to the development
and application of appropriate solutions to encounter demands of the
globalised and cross-cultural environments.
Students undertake a range of specialist and research-based studio projects supported by
knowledge and application of technology and environment, cultural context, research,
and professional practice to forge the position of sustaining humanity. Utilising a design
as research teaching pedagogy, the design studio forms the intersection of interests across
three broad domains of inquiry, i.e. urbanity, community, and technology.
2-Year
Programme
Research-Led Teaching
A teaching pedagogy that is
designed based on the
theme Research Informing
Design, where architectural
design, being the core of
architectural studies,
is viewed as a creative
intervention resolved through
research-led activity.

Integrated Studies
Apart from the design studio,
the programme is supported
by modules within the
streams of research, cultural
context, advanced and
integrated technology and
environment, as well as
entrepreneurship
and practice.
Global Perspectives
Sharing of global
experiences and
architectural discourse
within the architecture
fraternity, through
international exchanges
in the areas of practice
