THE LOST CONSIGNMENT

Asha requested her sister Radha to arrange for an audio -cassette of some classical composition,
which she can use as background music for the dance performance of her daughter in the school
function.

Radha, who is a teacher, borrowed the cassette from the dance teacher of her school and sent to
her sister Asha living in Paschim Vihar.

Asha, after dubbing, returned the cassette through DDCC couriers on 28
th
as she found it
convenient than personally visiting her sister living in Vasant Vihar. Asha also marked on the
envelope that it contained an audio -cassette, so that the packet is handled with care.

The packet was delivered to Radha on 31
st
.

When Radha opened the packet she had a shock of
her life, as she found the cassette of "Pyaar to Hona Hi Tha" inside the envelope.

Radha rang up Asha to check and Asha confirmed that rhe courier people changed the cassette.
Radha, on close examination of the envelope found that the colour of scotch tape, put on either
end of the envelope was not of the same colour. This confirmed that someone opened the envelop
from the bottom or it got open on its own. Asha also told Radha that she applied the scotch tape
only on one side of the envelope.

Radha was shocked. She felt that she has no face to show to her colleague from whom she
borrowed the cassette. Asha also felt that she has no face to show to her sister, and it is because
of her Radha has to cut a sorry figure to her colleague.

Radha and Asha made a number of telephone calls to the local branches who, booked or delivered
the packet. They also made complaints, on telephone to the Branch Manager (Delhi-DDCC) Mr.
S.K. Das and to the vigilance staff. Both sisters also requested, Mr. Das to make personal
inquiries at all the offices, who handled the consignment. The consignment was Infact, handled by
only four branches -- Pachim Vihar, Adarsh Nagar, IGI Airport, and Vasant Vihar. For over a week,
they gave false assurances. Finally, Mr. Das, when confronted, asked Radha that how can she
prove the change of cassette. As per their records they took bookings of one cassette, which was
delivered. Even the value (market value) of the item booked and delivered was the same.

Asha and Radha decided to personally meet Mr. Ganguli the DGM-DDCC, to whom Mr. S.K. Das
reports. They visited Mr. Ganguli office in Karol Bagh. Mr. Ganguli called Mr. S.K. Das in his room
to discuss the matter.
