Oracle GoldenGate

Oracle GoldenGate delivers low-impact, real-time data acquisition, distribution, and delivery
across heterogeneous systems. Its wide variety of use cases includes real-time business
intelligence; query offloading; zero-downtime upgrades and migrations; disaster recovery; and
active-active databases for data distribution, data synchronization and high availability.

Organizations can leverage Oracle GoldenGate to move transactional data in real time
between MySQL and other systems without impacting the performance of source or target
systems. For instance, customers using both MySQL and Oracle Database, whether as part
of the same application environment or not, can use Oracle GoldenGate for data
sharing/transfer, in the following scenarios:

Real-Time Data Warehousing:
Web properties or Web applications relying on MySQL/the LAMP stack usually collect a huge
amount of data online. Effectively analyzed, this data can generate significant additional
business opportunities. Oracle GoldenGate can move data collected online in MySQL in real
time into the Oracle Database, or Oracle Exadata and Oracle Exalytics, for high volume data
mining and analytics.

Real-Time Reporting:
MySQL is a very popular choice for custom departmental enterprise applications, and in
particular for data marts and analytical applications. Leveraging Oracle GoldenGate, various
departments can move a subset of source structured data in real-time from corporate
applications (CRM, corporate data warehouse) into dedicated MySQL-based data marts.
Business units or departments can hence get access to the information they need for their
own reporting and analysis without impacting the performance of the main application/data
warehouse, or creating data integrity risks.

OLTP Query Offloading:
Existing transactional systems built on the Oracle Database can be expanded online to cost-
effectively serve thousands of queries per second with MySQL and Oracle GoldenGate.
Retailers can deploy scaled-out commodity servers running MySQL to handle online queries
related to searches for events, products, auctions, etc. Users can then be pointed to the
existing back-end OLTP system for transaction processing once they made a purchase
decision. Oracle GoldenGate ensures the real-time synchronization between the MySQL
databases and the existing OLTP system.
