Adjustment of bit annulus
The adjustment of the bit annulus is easy done. Undo the
lock nut (27) from the inner tube adapter (8). The inner
tube adapter can now be threaded in and out to adjust the
bit annulus. When the right position (se fig. below)
achieved the lock nut is thightened again against the
inner tube adapter. A good starting value for the bit
annulus is 2.5 mm between the core lifter case and the
conical seat on the inside of the bit.
Features and benef its
The 46/56TT is the most cost effective alternative available for coring in medium hard to extremely hard
formations.
The 46/56TT is suitable for use with water flushing or polymer based drilling fluids in surface and underground
applications.
Features:
- Extra thin bit gives bigger core and higher penetration rate.
- Low f lushing pressure The annular space between the outer and inner tubes is optimized to maintain a
low flushing pressure.
- Prevents core grinding and bit wear A shut off valve gives an indication on the pressure gauge the
instant a core blockage occurs.
- Guaranteed minimum f lushing A leak groove in the shut off valve guarantees a minimum flushing of
3 l/min to keep the bit cool when a core blockage occurs.
- Easy replacement of the stabilizer The stabilizer is separate from the core barrel making it easy to
replace.
- Lubricated f or long lif e The core barrel head is equipped with a grease nipple and a stiff synthetic,
corrosion resistant spring for increased life.
- Easily adjustable The space between the core lifter case and the drill bit can be easily adjusted for
optimal flushing.
- The core barrel stabilizer can also serve as the rod string stabilizer.

1. Undo the bearing housing (pos. 6) from the shaft (3).
2. Undo the nut (18) and take away the washer (26).
3. It is now possible to pull the bearing housing (6) from
the spindel (7). If needed a spanner can be put into the
keyway of the bearing housing, then you can tap on
the spanner with a plastic hammer to free the spindel
(7) from the bearing housing (6).
4. When the bearing housing (5) is off the spindel (7) the
bearings (21 & 23) can be pushed out of the bearing
housing with a screw driver form the inside of the
bearing housing.
Note: If the bearing have to be changed, change all
bearings at the same time even if two of the bearings
looks good.
5. To start reassamble the bearing housing with the new
parts it is important to note the order in which you
have to assamble the parts to get the right function of
all parts.
6. Start with the axial bearing (23), mount it, so the race
that have the biggest diameter its in the bottom. Add
the washer (25) then the radial bearing (21) and then
the lipseal (24). The lipseal have to be pushed close to
the bearing with the lip facing outwards.
7. Before the bearing housing with the bearings are
mounted onto the spindel it is important that the
washer (25) is lined up properly between tha axial and
radial bearing.
8. When the bearing housing with the bearings is in
position on the spindel, the last radial bearing (21)
with washer (26) and nuts (18) can be mounted. It is
very important that the axial play is porperly adjusted.
This is done by tightening the nut (18) until it is no
axial play and the bearings are still turning freely.
9. The bearing housing can now be mounted back to the
shaft (3). Do not forget to lubricate the bearings!

Function of the shut of f valve
The function of the shut off valve is to protect the core
barrel from overloading and to give the necessary signal
to the machine for core blockage or full core barrel.
The function of the shut off valve is extra important if you
run a computer controlled rig like the Diamec 264 APC, as
this gives the signal to the machine to stop the drilling.
The shut off valve is designed so it more or less shuts the
water off when the inner tube is full of core and the feed
force are pressing the inner tube up against the valve and
expanding the same so no or very little water can pass by.
The same thing will happen if a core blockage occures
and the force on the inner tube increases.
The valve have two slots so some water (approx. 3-4
l/min) will pass although the valve is closed. This gives
you as a driller some extra time to shut the feed off
before the bit is burned. This slots can be improved by
making them bigger or put some more slots in the valve,
all to suite the drillers technique and preferences. J ust
make sure to not open it too much. Resulting in loss of
signal to machine.
With other words, the valve can be customized by the
user to give optimum performances to the given drilling
situation.
