(NAPS)In the first year that most
Americans were required to have health
insurance, more than 8 million individuals
got insurance through the federal or a state-
sponsored marketplace.
If you can count yourself among those 8
million plus with marketplace insurance for
any part of 2014, youre required to file a
federal income tax return and report some
simple information on your return.
Your marketplace will send you Form
1095- A, Health Insurance Marketplace
Statement, by January 31, 2015, said Jessi
Dolmage of TaxACT. When your tax pro-
gram asks for it, simply enter the information
on the form. The program will do the neces-
sary calculations and complete your tax
forms.
In addition to the health insurance man-
date, the Patient Protection and Affordable
Care Act enacted a premium tax credit for
individuals purchasing insurance through a
government-sponsored marketplace.
The credit amount is awarded on a slid-
ing scale based on your household size and
income. Generally, the lower your house-
hold income, the higher your premium tax
credit to help cover the cost of marketplace
health insurance.
Requirements for the credit include:
You are ineligible for such government
programs as Medicare, Medicaid or CHIP.
You do not have employer-sponsored
insurance or the lowest-priced, self-covered
plan meeting minimum essential require-
ments offered by your employer costs more
than 9.5 percent of your annual household
income.
Your annual household income is 100
to 400 percent of the federal poverty level.
For the 2014 credit, thats $11,490 to
$45,960 for an individual. (Hawaii and
Alaska residents are subject to different
amounts.)
You cannot be claimed as a dependent
on someone elses tax return.
Your filing status generally cannot be
married filing separately.
If qualified, you had the option of receiv-
ing some or all of the credit in advance, with
payment sent directly to your insurance com-
pany, thereby reducing your monthly premi-
ums.
Alternatively, you could pay for your
marketplace insurance throughout the year,
then claim the credit on your tax return,
either reducing your federal tax owed or
increasing your refund amount.
Regardless of your choice, whether you
qualified for the credit and how much credit
you received were based on your best esti-
mate of your 2014 household income and
family size at the time you applied for mar-
ketplace insurance.
If your actual household income was
more than the estimated amount, you may
need to pay
some of the
credit back. If
your income was
less than estimat-
ed, you may
qualify for a
higher credit
amount and
therefore receive
a larger refund.
Ever yone
who received
the advanced
credit or plans to
claim the credit
can still do their
own taxes, said
Dolmage. All
you have to do
is answer simple
questions. The
tax program will
complete the calculations and tax forms to
reconcile your income and family informa-
tion with the premium credit to make sure
you get every dollar you deserve.
If you reported all income and family
changes to your marketplace as they hap-
pened in 2014, your tax liability or refund
amount is less likely to be affected by your
premium credit.
Dolmage recommends doing your 2014
taxes beforehand to help estimate your
2015 income if you plan to apply for mar-
ketplace insurance and the premium credit
during the next enrollment period,
November 15, 2014 through February 15,
2015.

it at www.irs.gov and

Mount Mary University received an
additional $1.4 million from the estate of
alumna Joan Hetzel Iraneta, 56. Iraneta
previously bequeathed $2 million in her
estate plan for the August and Adella
Hetzel endowed scholarship fund. The fund
was named in honor of her parents and is
designated for students with financial need.
Iraneta, who died on Feb. 2, 2013, gradu-
ated from Mount Mary with degrees in
English and art.
In planning her estate gift, Iraneta rec-
ognized the foundation Mount Mary pro-
vided her. She also expressed gratitude for
mentorship provided by the School Sisters
of Notre Dame. They gave us an educa-
tion unrivaled by our peers, she stated.
Iraneta had a special interest in poetry
as a Mount Mary student. She served as an
editor and contributor to the Quarterly, a lit-
erary publication featuring faculty and stu-
dent creative writing. Authored work sub-
mitted to the publication included a book
review on the collected poems of Roy
Campbell and several of her own poems.
Mount Marys English program contin-
ues to offer students an array of education-
al opportunities in creative writing, literature
and English education at both the under-
graduate and graduate levels. Many facul-
ty members regularly publish their own
work and provide guidance to writers on
and off campus through the Writers on
Writing lecture series and the annual
Publishing Institute.
Recognizing Iranetas gift, Vice
President of Development Pamela Owens
acknowledged the influence of dedicated
faculty as they teach and mentor students.
Providing an outstanding education touch-
es the lives of students in countless ways,
Owens stated. Were grateful and hon-
ored to be remembered by this generous
alumna.
According to Mount Mary President Dr.
Eileen Schwalbach, the Schools Sisters of
Notre Dame founded the university over
100 years ago with a vision to transform the
world through education. The Hetzel
endowed scholarship will provide ongoing
educational opportunities so important to
Mount Marys mission, Schwalbach stat-
ed. With over 90% of all freshman receiv-
ing financial support through scholarships,
this legacy gift will serve students for years
to come.

Usually, the term home improvement
leads people to think about the physical
structures of the place-plumbing, insulation
and wiring, but you can improve the look
and feel of your home this fall with just a
few small changes. You don't have to sign
any paperwork with a contractor or spend
a lot of money in order to make these
changes.
Consider changing the colors of your
accent pieces. Everyone decorates for
Christmas, and having a few pieces of fall
that you procure this year and keep from
year to year can help bring the outside
feeling in. Fall leaves, holly and vegeta-
bles like pumpkins and squash will imme-
diately trigger warm associations in your
home. Got a big elm in your front yard?
When the leaves start to change colors,
bring in the best-looking ones, dry them
out and arrange them on a coffee or
accent table. You could also string them
up into the chandelier above your dining
room table, adding visual height to the
room.
You can create a wall grouping with
fall flair anywhere in your home.
Gathering a number of small frames from
second-hand stores, you can add whatev-
er items you find that remind you of fall.
These might be leaves, swatches of color
or even sayings that you have typed and
printed out. A cluster allows you to make
dramatic change in a small space.
Clustering smaller items will add visual
interest and encourage the eye to move
around the room, making it appear larger.
Consider the front of your home. This is
the first thing that people will see as they
approach for the holidays, and fall is a
good time to spruce up your entry or
vestibule. A fall wreath on the front door
can really set the tone. Fall is also a good
time to think about flowers. You won't have
the vibrancy of spring flowers, but you can
dramatically alter the way that your home
is perceived with several pots of mums.
The kinds of small changes you can
make in the fall are only limited by your
imagination. Shop flea markets, discount
stores and thrift stores with an eye out for
inexpensive items than can be combined
to make a stunning display in your home.
You don't have to make major changes to
make a major impact on the appearance
of your home.
Small changes make a
big difference this fall

Drs. Richard and Bruce Winter
Dear Dr. Winter, I have been told I have no bone left
under my dentures. I keep getting sharp stinging pain
when I bite down and my dentures pop out when I
open my mouth even with denture adhesive. What are
my options and how much does this cost?
Dear Jan, I am sorry you are having problems with
your dentures. Teeth maintain bone. When teeth are
removed you can lose 40% of the remaining bone the
first year after tooth loss. This bone loss will continue
every year until implants are placed to stop bone loss.
This means you can lose height of bone and width of
bone continuously. When you wear dentures the
dentures may appear tight but over time as the bone
resorbs the dentures get looser and looser. That is why
dentures should be relined or remade every 3-5 years
to try and maintain a better fit between the denture
acrylic and the bone.
Dentures can move up to 1/2 an inch during a
normal chewing cycle. That movement coupled with
bone loss can quickly lead to exposure of nerves that
can cause pain from denture pressure.
Solutions to nerve pain involve stabilizing your
dentures or moving into "fixed" teeth again. This is
done by placing implants or mini-implants into the
jaws to support your dentures. How many implants
you receive is often dependant upon your budget. I
have written many articles on Upgradeable Dentistry
which is a concept that allows patients to place
implants before bone loss occurs. They can then
continue to add implants over time as their budgets
allow until they have enough support to have a
permanent bridge or "fixed teeth." Placing implants as
soon as teeth are lost helps prevent more costly bone
grafts later on. There are ways of making Snap-On-
Dentures with a few implants so that the implants can
have attachments that the denture clips to. This
prevents slipping of the teeth and eliminates the need
for denture adhesive which can be quite annoying to
clean out each day. If enough implants can be afforded
then a bar can be made to snap the denture on to and
this allows the implants to be splinted and increases
their strength.
If we have 6 implants in the upper arch (or more)
and at least 5 implants in the lower arch then a hybrid
or "fixed" denture can be made for our patients.
If you have lost too much bone according to your
dentist, there may be grafting procedures you can
undergo to add bone for supporting implants. That
can involve using bone from your chin (chin block
grafts), bone from your ramus (the area by your
wisdom teeth), or using hip grafts to re-grow the
bone. Alternatively, ridge spreading or bone
reduction can be undertaken to try and create a
platform that will allow implants to be placed.
We welcome our readers to come in for a no charge
implant consultation or a comprehensive examination
and implant evaluation to see what your options are for
eliminating denture pain. Please see our videos, photos
and articles at www.hamptondentalassociates.com
We look forward to meeting you! Ask about our
internet or Hometown Publication special. Please
note any implant case started before 12/10/14 will be
given a $300 discount if you bring in this article.
Sincerely,
Richard B. Winter D.D.S.
