Welcome
Welcome to SW Michigan, home to Michigan Lutheran High School and this years East Regional WELS Choral
Festival. What a joy it is to open our campus to the many choirs, families, and supporters from our Christ-centered
schools! We pray that you are comfortable, at home, and enjoy your time listening to the young people enrich our lives
and our faith through the gift of music.
The theme for this year is Let The Light Shine. This is a fitting theme for this years Choral Festival being held
here in Michigan. As you have the opportunity to go to downtown St. Joseph this weekend or around the area to the
waterfront, you will notice lighthouses.
Lighthouses dot the coastline of Lake Michigan and our other Great Lakes. There are more lighthouses in
Michigan than in any other state. They are the stars of the shore as they still shine for ships while others simply tell their
stories with us as museums.
Matthew 6:14-16, You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot
be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.
Instead they put in on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the
house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may
see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
Our young people this weekend get to show us all how they let
their lights shine. They will be on stage before us and will help enrich
and enlighten our lives and our faith. Of course we all know what The Light is that we are letting shine. The light is
Jesus. It is he who burns inside us. It is he who motivates and guides us. And it is he who we reflect to others. May all our
lights shine brightly with Jesus not just this weekend, but throughout your lives as we point people to their Lord and give
praise and thanks to our Father in Heaven.

Thy strong word did cleave the darkness; At Thy speaking it was done.
For created light we thank Thee, While Thine ordered seasons run.
Alleluia, alleluia! Praise to Thee who light dost send!
Alleluia, alleluia! Alleluia without end!
Choir: Lo, on those who dwelt in darkness, Dark as night and deep as death,
Broke the light of Thy salvation, Breathed Thine own life-breathing breath.
Alleluia, alleluia! Praise to Thee who light dost send!
Alleluia, alleluia! Alleluia without end!
All:
Thy strong Word bespeaks us righteousness; Bright with Thine own holiness,
Glorious now, we press toward glory, And our lives our hopes confess.
Alleluia, alleluia! Praise to Thee who light dost send!
Alleluia, alleluia! Alleluia without end!
Choir: From the cross Thy wisdom shining Breaketh forth in conquring might;
From the cross forever beameth All Thy bright redeeming light.
Alleluia, alleluia! Praise to Thee who light dost send!
Alleluia, alleluia! Alleluia without end!
All:
All:
God, the Father, light creator, To Thee laud and honor be.
To Thee, Light of Light begotten, Praise be sung eternally.
Holy Spirit, light-revealer, glory, glory be to Thee.
Mortals, angels, now and ever praise the holy Trinity! Amen.
Keep your lamps trimmed and burning, the time is drawing nigh.
Children, dont get weary til your work is done.
Christian journey soon be over, the time is drawing nigh.
Keep your lamps trimmed and burning, the time is drawing nigh.

I walk in danger all the way. The thought shall never leave me
That Satan, who has marked his prey, is plotting to deceive me.
This foe with hidden snares may seize me unawares
If I should fail to watch and pray. I walk in danger all the way.
Choir: I pass through trials all the way, with sin and ills contending;
In patience I must bear each day the cross of Gods own sending.
When in adversity I know not where to flee,
When storms of woe my soul dismay, I pass through trials all the way.
And death pursues me all the way, nowhere I rest securely;
He comes by night, he comes by day, he takes his prey most surely.
A failing breath, and I in deaths strong grasp may lie
To face eternity today as death pursues me all the way.
I walk with angels all the way, they shield me and befriend me;
All Satans powr is held at bay when heavnly hosts attend me;
They are my sure defense, all fear and sorrow, hence!
Unharmed by foes, do what they may, I walk with angels all the way.
I walk with Jesus all the way, his guidance never fails me;
Within his wounds I find a stay when Satans powr assails me;
And by his footsteps led, my path I safely tread.
No evil leads my soul astray; I walk with Jesus all the way.

12
Still, my soul, be still and do not fear though winds of change may rage tomorrow.
God is at your side; no longer dread the fires of unexpected sorrow.
Refrain: God, You are my God, and I will trust in You and not be shaken.
Lord of peace, renew a steadfast spirit within me to rest in You alone.
Still, my soul, be still; do not be moved by lesser lights and fleeting shadows.
Hold on to His ways, with shield of faith against temptations fleeting arrows. Refrain
Still, my soul, be still; do not forsake the truth you learned in the beginning.
Wait upon the Lord, and hope will rise as stars appear when day is dimming. Refrain

Refrain: I am the light of the world; who follows me will not walk in darkness.
I am the light of the world; but they will have the light of life.
Rise, shine; for your light has come; Gods glory is risen upon you.
True light that enlightens all has come into the world. Refrain
God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
Walk in the light, as he is in the light. Refrain
You are the light of the world, the light that cannot be hidden.
Therefore let your light so shine to glorify your Father.
I am the light of the world;
In thee is gladness amid all sadness,
who follows me will not walk in darkness.
I am the light of the world;
In thee is gladness amid all sadness,
but they will have the light of life.
Jesus, sunshine of my heart! In thee is gladness...

All:
All creatures of our God and King, lift up your voice and with us sing, Alleluia, alleluia!
Thou burning sun with golden beam, thou silver moon with softer gleam.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! O praise him! Alleluia!
Choir: Thou rushing wind that art so strong, ye clouds that sail in heavn along, Alleluia, alleluia!
Thou rising morn, in praise rejoice; ye lights of evening find a voice,
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! O praise him! Alleluia!
Thou flowing water, pure and clear, make music for thy Lord to hear, Alleluia, alleluia!
Thou fire so masterful and bright, that gives to man both warmth and light,
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! O praise him! Alleluia!
All:
Eternal are your mercies, Lord; eternal is your glorious Word, Alleluia, alleluia!
Your praise shall sound from shore to shore, till suns shall rise and set no more!
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! O praise him! Alleluia!
We are saved not just because Christ shines light like a headlight on where
we need to look and what we need to do for our salvation, no we are saved by
the Light itself. Christ is the Light, and His Light shines brightest at the cross,
cutting through darkness once and for all.
3. The waves - The waves flow to appear like a music staff. It is the darkest area
of the logo so the waves also symbolize the hardships and turmoil of the world,
emphasizing the theology of the cross in daily life. The music notes come from
the lighthouse and break up the waves, since the Word of God united with
music will fight the Devils temptations and accusations and bring peace and
comfort to those who hear it.
1. The Lighthouse - The St. Joseph North Pier lighthouse is the icon for the
region. The theme was a play on that idea so I wanted to incorporate that
specific lighthouse, rather than just any lighthouse. This was a bit of a challenge,
with its unique roofline.
4. The shape - Admittedly boxy, the constrictions of the logo serve to give it a
more elegant look, making it fit both for a secular pops concert and worthy of a
sacred Divine Service. In addition, it helps bring out the cross, which should be
front and center of our whole life.
2. Let THE Light Shine - In initial discussions, the decision was made to not
do Let YOUR Light Shine, since it is subjective in nature. Let The Light
Shine makes it clear that the light that is shining is Christs own Light. The
cross in the design forms not only the rays of light, but the lighthouse itself.
We sincerely thank Jeff for his creative efforts for this festival!
