214 - We Have This Hope

We have this hope that burns within our heart, Hope in the coming of the Lord. We have this faith that Christ alone imparts, Faith in the promise of His Word. We believe the time is here, When the nations far and near Shall awake, and shout and sing Hallelujah! Christ is King! We have this hope that burns within our heart, Hope in the coming of the Lord.

2 We are united in Jesus Christ our Lord. We are united in His love. Love for the waiting people of the world, People who need our Savior's love. Soon the heavens will open wide, Christ will come to claim His bride, All the universe will sing Hallelujah! Christ is King! We have this hope this faith, and God's great love, We are united in Christ.

Both the words and music to this song was written by Wayne Hooper (1920-2007 ) At the time, he was the baritone and arranger for the Kings Heralds Quartet of the Voice of Prophecy radio broadcast. The song was composed based on the motto of the General Conference session of 1962. The committees chairman, Charles Keymer, encouraged Wayne to try writing a theme song based on the sessions motto, We Have This Hope. Hooper made it a matter prayer that the Holy Spirit would impress him with the right combination of words and music that would bless the people at the session We Have This Hope has two stanzas and the chorus. The song was again used as the theme song for the General Conference sessions of 1966, 1975, 1995, 2000 and 2005. By popular demand, the hymn has been incorporated into the Adventist church hymnals and translated into dozens of languages. It can be heard in many parts of the Adventist world. To be an Adventist Christian means first and foremost to live looking forward to the glorious day of Christs coming. Peter urges this forward look, saying: Set your hope fully upon the grace that is coming to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ Church music plays a vital role in strengthening the faith and nourishing the hope of Christs coming. Therefore it is not surprising that in the new Seventh-day Adventist Church Hymnal, there are 34 hymns about the Second Advent. Its no wonder then that Seventh Day Adventist Christians are reminded day by day of this blessed hope that burns within our hearts. Today, as we stand at the threshold of the Lords return and see the day drawing near), this Blessed Hope should inspire us to rekindle the flame and encourage us to live sober, upright and godly lives in this world, while awaiting our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory, of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ).
