Rock (Kerrang)- The rock genre has many strengths within it. One of the main strengths of the rock genre is the
diversity inside of the genre itself. Rock has many sub-genres which attract various different audiences. With
genres such as screamo and punk rock, the musical genre of rock can attract all different age groups and
ethnicities. A weakness of the rock genre is the news coverage associated with it, as many rock band members
try to upstage each other by performing acts which arent considered inappropriate. An example of this would
be Ozzy Osbourne, who bit the head off of a bat whilst on stage, something which he is now quite famous for.
Although this has led to somewhat jovial views now, at the time it led to various problems with animal rights
organisations. The musician himself thought the bat was rubber, when it was in fact a real bat.

The above bands are well known for creating Rock music and are still touring occasionally to this day. This is a
representation of the longevity that the genre itself has, spanning over decades as music has changed.
Alternative (Q)- The alternative genre also has strengths and weaknesses, as does any genre. The alternative
genre is popular for its various sub-genres, much to the liking of rock, and this leads to a wide variety in regard
to the audience, be it young or old. Alternative overlaps slightly into rock, but is considered different in the
media. One of the weaknesses with the genre is association, also seen within rock, as people tend to give a
certain portrayal of people who prefer this kind of music, which can be seen with gothic music and the
stereotype that comes with it. Another weakness is that the genre itself has become less popular after the dawn
of the twenty first century, as the effect of the music began to wear off.

Above are some well-known Alternative bands that are poplar in the media for one reason or another. Bands such as The
Eagles and The Cure rarely perform, but are still popular never the less due to their influence on the genre and music
they created.
R&B (Vibe)- R&B is a very prevalent musical genre due to the huge umbrella term that the genre is. R&B covers
an incredibly amount of sub-genres such as rap, blues, pop, etc. This is one of the main reasons that the genre
itself is so popular, drawing audiences from many ages and ethnicities. A weakness would be in a similar light to
rock, in that many of the musicians with the genre of R&B are quite controversial, such as Kanye West, who has
featured in the media for inappropriate behaviour many times.
