In this activity you have to go to the forum and develop the following activity:

Read the following text:

Milling is the machining process of using rotary cutters to remove material from a workpiece advancing (or
feeding) in a direction at an angle with the axis of the tool. It covers a wide variety of different operations and
machines, on scales from small individual parts to large, heavy-duty gang milling operations. It is one of the
most commonly used processes in industry and machine shops today for machining parts to precise sizes
and shapes.
Milling can be done with a wide range of machine tools. The original class of machine tools for milling was
the milling machine (often called a mill). After the advent of computer numerical control (CNC), milling
machines evolved into machining centers (milling machines with automatic tool changers, tool magazines or
carousels, CNC control, coolant systems, and enclosures), generally classified as vertical machining centers
(VMCs) and horizontal machining centers (HMCs). The integration of milling into turning environments and
of turning into milling environments, begun with live tooling for lathes and the occasional use of mills for
turning operations, led to a new class of machine tools, multitasking machines (MTMs), which are purposebuilt to provide for a default machining strategy of using any combination of milling and turning within the
same work envelope.

Imaging you worked with milling machines 10 years ago, you were like an expert on managing those
kinds of machines and someone asked you some questions about those kinds of tools. Answer the
questions and take into account the way as the questions are written.

R: - What was the hardest part when you started to do machined?

The hardest part when I started to do machined was learning metrology.

- What was the first programming language you used in CNC?

The first programming language I used was Fagor and Siemens.
- Did the milling serve to do electronic processes?
No, it did not, the electronic processes were implemented in milling machines to create the CNC.
-Were the milling machines evolving?
Yes, the milling machines were evolving into machining centers.

Actividades de Apropiacin del Conocimiento (conceptualizacin y

Teorizacin).

Read the following explanation about the use of regular and irregular
verbs:

To make the past tense of most verbs (regular verbs) we simply add ed at the end.
Examples using the verb walk:
Past Tense: I walked through the maze.
(The past participle form is used in the present perfect, past perfect, and future perfect tenses. The
above example is written in the present perfect tense.)
Irregular verbs are not that simple. We sometimes need a dictionary to help us write the different
forms of irregular verbs.
Examples using the verb see:
Past Tense: We saw the secret maps.
Now, read the following short text and rewrite it but in simple past:
Computer Numerical Control
A computer numerically controlled mill, or CNC Mill, makes precise or production parts with
little intervention by the operator. Precise measuring instruments and special motors called
stepping motors move the head and the table, select tools and machine the parts to precise
dimensions that are difficult or too time consuming to do manually. The operator should still
be a trained machinist to ensure that the machine operates correctly, is set up properly and
has the necessary tools to perform the task. Programming may be done manually at a
computer terminal, at the machine itself, or come from computer-aided manufacturing
(CAM) software in conjunction with computer-aided design (CAD) software.
