Westinghouse Electric built a robot called
Elektro the Moto Man, first seen real robot in

In 1956
The first Unimate was created
by George Devol in the 1950s .
The Unimate was used
on general motors assembly
line in 1961. The Unimated
had two large computer boxes
attached to a arm. On
the assembly line the Unimate
was responsible for die casting,
and welding those parts into
auto bodies.

In 1957

Sputnik 1 which was the first satellite launched on


October 4, 1957. Has a diameter of 585 mm, orbit
height of 359 miles and has a speed of 4.971 miles.
The satellite has four external antennae which is
used to broadcast the radio pulses.

In 1966
Shakey was a robot
that could crunch big
commands into basic
steps by itself. For
normal robotics they
have to
be instructed for
every individual
step.

In 1977
Star wars R2 - D2 and C3PO was created in
1977. R2-D2 is an
astromech driod that
was created by John
Stears and Tony Dyson.
C-3PO was created by
Anthony Daniels, Ross
King, Tom Kane,
and Chris Bartlett.

In 1986
Honda E series was the very first human like
characteristic robot were at first the bots
were experimental but later became the Honda P
series and became an advanced humanoid a self
regulating
wireless
robot.
While
in experimental process the Honda E series was kept
a secret from the public but then was soon exposed
in 1996. The Honda E's characteristics is that it
walked in a straight line on its two feet that took
about 5 seconds to complete that step,

In 1988
Scamp the robotic friendly dog was the first
robot pet with emotions. Emotions that the
dog has is whining, panting, barking.

In 1994
Lego Mindstorms were created and based on
agentsheets. The miniature robot comes with
a programmable brick computer, set of modular
sensors and motors, and lego parts. The Lego
Mindstorms for school is developed by Tufts
University. The difference between the original and
the school is the consumer series, which is another
light sensor, and other gearing options.

In 1997
The first robot to roam mars Sojourner was created.
It included a lander, and a roving probe. Launched on
December 4, 1996. With a speed of 16.441 mph it
lands on Mars in 1997 one year later. The total
amount that it took to prepare this robot is 175
million dollars.

In 2000
Honda releases the first non prototypes
ASIMO(humanoid). This robotic was designed
to help those with out full mobility(disabled).
Stands at 3 feet 3 inches, weighs 113 pounds.
Has the power to walk and run on its two feet
at a speed of 3.7 mph. The ASIMO is also apart
of the Honda E/P series.

In 2001
General Atomics MQ-1 Predator which was
first for Unmanned aerial vehicle with
cameras, sensors, and 2
hellfire missiles The General Atomics MQ-1
Predator is mainly used by the United States
Air Force and Central Intelligence Agency. Has
been part of the wars in Afghanistan, Pakistan,
Bosnia, Serbia, Iraq, etc. It is powered by a
Rotax engine and driven by a propeller.

In 2003
The Actroid (robot with
human characteristics). Has
strong
human
like
appearance.
Created
by Osaka University. The
Actriod has the ability to
blink, speak, and breath.
Repliee model is a model that
can interpret and recognize
what is being said and
respond (kindly).

In 2004
Mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity is another robot
that lands on mars. The robot includes: a panoramic
camera, a miniature thermal emission spectrometer,
a Moessbauer spectrometer, an alpha particle X-ray
spectrometer for Chemistry, and a microscope. Spirit
and Opportunity mission was to discover the geology
and Martians surface.

The Robonaut-2 was created by NASA and


General Motors joined forces. The new
humonoid for NASA was created to work
along side with astronauts. The robots can
handle all types of tools that the astronauts
use and has the ability to move and also move
other things around but is not built for the
outside so it remains on space stations.

Why build robots?

Personal robots focus on a singular (job task)


or purpose.
Learn many aspects of robots: artificial
intelligence, neural networks, usefulness and
purpose, sensors, navigation, articulated
limbs, etc.
