SALISBURYThisweekend,HabitatforHumanityofWicomicoCountywillbehostingacharityeventofferingchoicedelicaciesfromareachefs
andpittinglocalcelebritiesagainstoneanotherintheir3rdannualChefsforHumanity.
OnSept.22,eightlocalchefswithspecialtiesrangingfromsushi,toItalian,tothankgoodnesscupcakes,willbedonatingtheiruniquefareto
luckyticketholders,whowillalsohavethepleasureofwatchingcelebritywaiterscompeteagainstoneanothertoaidthecharity.
Itsoursignaturefundraisingevent,andwebringtogetheroutstandingchefsfromalloverDelmarvatoprovidesamplingsoftheirsignaturedishes,
saidJoanMulvanny,executivedirectorofHabitatforHumanityofWicomico.
Additionally,the12localcelebritiesincludinglocallawenforcementofficials,politiciansandbusinessownerswillberacingthroughanobstacle
coursebrandishingawaiterstraybearingafullglassofwine.
Therewillactuallybetwowinners,Mulvannysaid.Oneisthepersonwhoraisesthemostmoneybeforehandandweveprobablybroughtin
$3,000fromthewaiterspledgesalreadyandtheotherwinneristhepersonthatactuallywinstheraisewithoutspillingtheirwine.Wellhavethree
heatsofthreecelebritiesatatime,andthenthewinnersofeachheatwillcompete.
SalisburyCityPoliceChiefBarbaraDuncanwillbeoneofthepotentialcelebritywinners,andlooksforwardtoherfirsttimeparticipating.
ImamemberoftheboardforHabitatandIreallybelieveintheprinciplestheystandforandwhattheyredoingforourneighborhoods,Duncan
said.
Partakinginthiseventisreallyanhonorforme,notjusttorepresentthepolicedepartmentbuttorepresenttheboardaswell.
SusanPattofCakeArtwillbeparticipatinginChefsforHumanityforhersecondyearinarow.
Itswasalotoffunlastyear,Ireallyenjoyeddoingit,Pattsaid.Imdoingittosupportthecommunity,tosupportHabitatforHumanity!Ibelieve
inthecharity,ingivingbacktothecommunityinanywayIcananditstayslocal,whichisagreatthing.
Lastyearseventraisedatotalof$25,000forthecharitythroughavarietyofmeans.Sponsorshipscomefromlocalbusinessesandindividualshave
theopportunitytopurchaseticketstoreserveseating.Additionally,bothsilentandliveauctionswillbehostedofferingavarietyofprizes,including
specialdinnersfromlocalchefs,SaturdayNightLivetickets,andaweeklongstayatacondoinPalmBeach,Calif.
ThisyearsChefsevent,noonewillwanttomiss,Mulvannysaid.Thecommunityhasprovidedoutstandingsupportintheformofdonationsand
volunteers.ItisonlywithcontinuedsupportthatwecanmakethedreamofhomeownershipcometrueformanyfamiliesinWicomicoCounty.
Sinceitsfoundingin1987,HabitatforHumanityofWicomicohasbuilt53localhomesandfinancedtheconstructionof61moreintheWestAfrican
countryofGhana.
Allproceedsfromthisyearseventwillbeusedtobuildahomeat202LindwoodAvenue,aspartofHabitatforHumanityseffortstorevitalizethe
ChurchStreetarea,forTerryFisherandherfourchildren.Whilealargenumberofvolunteersworkfortheorganization,fundingisstillrequiredfor
buildingmaterialsandspecializedlabor.
