Question 1.
(a) Insert a rational number between 2/9 and 3/8 and arrange them in
ascending order.
(b) Find the square root of 5 correct to three significant figure.
(c) Convert 4/5 into percentage.
(d) Find a single discount equivalent to three successive discounts of 20%,
10% and 5%.
Question 2.
(a)If x + 1/x = 3, find the value of x2 + 1/x2.
(b) Factorize : x2 + 5x + 6.
(c) The area of a square plot is 2025m2. Find the length of its side and the
length of its diagonal. [2]
(d) Find the length of the longest rod that can be placed in a room measuring
12cm 9m 8m.
Question 3.
(a) If the height of an equilateral is 8 cm, calculate its area.
(c) In the figure given below, ABC is a right angled triangle, right angle at B
and tan A = 3/4. If AC = 15 cm, find the length of AB and BC.

(a) Prove that 3 is an irrational number. Hence show that 3 + 2 is an

(b) A candidate who gets 20% marks in an examination fails by 30 marks,
but another candidate, who gets 32% marks, gets 42 more marks than the
minimum pass marks. Find the pass percentage of marks. [3]
(d) If a2 + b2 + c2 = 125 and ab + bc + ca = 50, find a + b + c.

(a) Calculate the area of quadrilateral ABCD in which, LA = 90, AB = 32
cm, AD = 24 cm and BC = CD = 25 cm.

(b)The scale of a map is 1:200000. A plot of land of area 20 km2 is to be
represented on the map. Find
(i)
The number of kilometers on the ground which is represented by
1 cm on the map.
(ii)
The area in km2 that can be represented by 1 cm2 .
(iii) The area of the map that represents the plot of the land. [4]
Question- 8
(a) The dimensions of a rectangle are 20cm X 16cm. outside this rectangle
four triangles with largest areas are attached. Out of these four triangle
,two are isosceles right angled triangles attached to each of the longer
sides and the other two are equilateral triangle attached to shorter
sides of the given rectangle. Find the perimeter and the area of the
resulting figure.

sq. m is Rs 1638 and the cost of matting the floor at Rs 3.50 per sq m
is Rs 378. Find the height of the room. [3]
Question 10.
(a) The parallel sides AB and DC of a trapezium ABCD are 51 cm and 30 cm
respectively. The sides AD and BC are 20 cm and 13 cm respectively. Find the
distance between parallel sides and the area of the trapezium.
