EVERYTHING WE DO
My inspiration
This is story is about my Auntie Christine who inspires me every day she is also the
reason I enjoy my job and work hard to find the right people for the Care Sector.
My Auntie Christine lived at home for most of her life with my
Grandma and Grandad. We are not sure what exactly was wrong
with Auntie Christine, friends that came with me to my Grandmas
couldnt tell there was anything wrong with her and neither could
I really but in those days she was classed as Backwards. When
she was in her teens she had a nervous breakdown and was taken
to Stanley Royd in Leeds (Not a nice place by all accounts) and was
subjected to Electric shock treatments which made me feel sick.
As my Grandad and Grandma got older they decided it was time
to ensure that Christine was cared for when they had gone and
that is when Auntie Christine entered the Care System, initially in
a Residential Home in Leeds. We did see a negative change in her
personality, She wasnt her usual fun self, she was drowsy and
became withdrawn and unhappy.
We were informed that she was classed as Schizophrenic and
would require a Nursing Home.
My Auntie went to live at the Home in Bradford and during her
time there she had her cigarette allowance reduced to 3 a day She obsessed about smoking and this caused her distress, leading
her to take cigarette butts from ashtrays.
My Auntie then broke her hip (We still dont know why) and we
were called to the Hospital. We found her in the middle of a small
ward of six. Her hair was stuck to her head, she smelled so badly
the whole ward smelt of urine and her belongings were in a bin
liner - How degrading! I could have cried! It was whilst she was in
here that we received the sad news that they had discovered she
had inoperable lung cancer.
Christine returned to the home and never walked again, more
incidents happened including her bed being away from her
buzzer, she was drag lifted and was slapped across the face with
a slipper!
I called the local CQC Inspector and started an official complaint.
CQC Investigated and we were given a list of complaints and
whether they had been upheld or not. We did also discover that
there were discrepancies with her monies. But no real answers!
Thankfully we were able to secure a move to a home in Leeds
where the staff were amazing. She spent her final months being
Nursed by a very passionate team, which I am glad of and I was by
her side whilst she died of lung cancer.
Sadly I cannot change what happened to her and the sad life she
lived in the care system. Knowing what I know now I honestly
think my Auntie had a Learning Disability. I feel sad that her life
was like this and that she didnt receive the best care and support
she deserved which is why we go the extra mile to ensure we
fine passionate candidates who want to make a difference.

our recruitment team and would recommend Vicky and her team 100%.
I have known Vicky for over six years now, and in that time she is someone who I found to be
capable of great compassion and has real commitment to the care sector, she is someone I very
quickly learned to trust without question with regard to the recruitment needs of St. Clements
Care Services.
Paul and Vicky bring a refreshingly measured approach to H&SC recruitment. They take the time
to learn about your needs from an individual point of view rather than pre-conceived ideas about
the kind of candidate(s) you are looking for. This personal touch runs through the whole process
of the tailored recruitment that they provide.
On top of which their own personalities make the sometimes stressful and serious nature of the
process of recruitment an enjoyable and dare I say it a pleasurable experience.
