Prologue
Life always seems easy when you have a family to take

care of you. You don't have to be afraid of anything, don't

have to fret over when or how you are going to get your next
meal. My life as becoming the opposite of this sort of easy as
I learned in a short few minutes of an incident involving my
family members.
I received a disturbing phone call as I walked through the
front doors to my house in the town. I recognized the
number as the one from the Mid-way Hospital. I just barely
missed the call, and a voice-mail popped up just before
another call began in again.
I answered my phone and put it up to my hear, only to
receive a grave message.
There's been an accident. Your family is at the Mid-way
Hospital. Please get here as soon as you can. I fear they may
not have much time. The message clicked off and my phone
beeped as the call was ended.
I stared in disbelief for a second before dropping
everything I had in my hands and rushing to my car. I fell

into the driver seat and started the engine, not worrying
about putting on a seat-belt as I slammed my door shut,
pushed the gear shift into drive, and raced out of my
driveway on my way to the hospital.
I arrived at the hospital in less than ten minutes and ran
inside, asking questions and hastening to find where my
family was at. One of the nurses who knew me from my
childhood spotted me and led me to the eighth floor, the
floor for ICU. I was shown to a room large enough to hold
twenty beds and seating areas for each of those beds. My
family was lined up along one of the walls and all I could do
was stare as the doctor rushed to treat them.
Tears welled up in my eyes and I slowly walked over to
each one of the beds of my family members. Blood pounded
in my ears and my heart slammed against my chest, my head
beginning to hurt. I heard something of a whisper coming
from my right side, the side to which my siblings all lay.
Then, a flat-lined heart monitor.
I was removed from the room and the door was closed on
me. I could hear new machines being rushed through the
doctor entrance to the room and started up.
...charge it!...He's gonna...heart failure... I only caught
bits and pieces of the conversations going on inside the room
as they worked..
I felt the wetness of tears running down my cheeks. More
of the heart monitors began flat-lining and a lock clicked on
the door to the room I had been pushed out of.

A nurse approached me and grabbed my arm, saying
politely, We need you to return to a waiting room. The
doctors are doing their best and it's going to take a while.
Please follow me.
I stared at her for a second and my feet seemed to
mechanically begin after hers. She led me to the waiting
room on the same floor and asked me to sit. She offered to
bring me a plate of food from the cafeteria so I could eat
while I waited to hear what was going to happen to my
family. But the thing is...I already knew what was going to
happen...

Chapter 1

My first day back to school was hectic. I was behind

almost a full two weeks in all my classes. It was just a short
time ago that I had finally come to terms with everything
that had happened. I still wasn't thrilled about it, but I had to
deal with it anyway.
I walked into the school, peeking a glance around me at
every turn I came to until I reached the guidance office. I had
only went to that room to get my schedule and head to class.
