DonPelayoin722andwasconcurrentwiththeperiodofMuslimruleon
theIberianPeninsula.TheChristianarmy'svictoryoverMuslimforces
ledtothecreationoftheChristianKingdomofAsturiasalongthe
northwesterncoastalmountains.Shortlyafter,in739,Muslimforces
weredrivenfromGalicia,whichwastoeventuallyhostoneofmedieval
