4. Determination and elimination of swing.

Eliminate swing in three phases: setting error elimination; semicircular swing elimination;
quadrantal elimination.
. Preparation
(1) Prepare theodolite or swing finder of DP () type for operation in compliance with
their operation manuals. The recommended theodolite types: -1 (B-1), -4, -5 and
.
NOTE. If swing work is performed after replacement of flux gate sensor or correction
mechanism, make a preliminary check of compass system - (TKS-P)
serviceability (see item 2 "Serviceability checking").
(2) Follow the instructions of Item ..
(3) Place the aircraft in the compass base and determine the aircraft heading by means of
the theodolite with accuracy of measurements provided by the theodolite.
(4) Activate compass system - (TKS-P) and all aircraft and radio equipment in
compliance with operation manuals for the systems to be activated.
(5) Set the heading measured with theodolite, in -4, and enter it into compass system
- (TKS-P) in compliance with instructions in Item . and make sure that the heading
preset in -4 with accuracy determined in Item 3.E, is indicated in instruments -7 (EUS7), heading indicator -3 (USh-3) and navigators indicator -1 (KUSh-3); compass
system - shall operate in the directional gyro (GPK) mode and switch consumers is in
." (Main) position.

TECHNICAL OPERATION MANUAL

NOTE. 1. When carrying out swing work, the main gyro unit drift should be taken into account
and apply the correction after every hour of operation (the drift should not exceed
0,5 degr/hour).
2. During the swing work, check electronic synchronization indicator -7 (EUS-7)
for correct indications one or two times by measuring the heading with theodolite.
B. Elimination of flux gate sensor -3 (ID-3) setting error.
(1) Set the aircraft heading values in successive order at 0, 90, 180 and 270 determined
by means of instrument -7 (EUS-7). Determine reading error (K) of correction
mechanisms pointers (main and additional) in each heading.
(2) Calculate the setting error individually for the main and additional flux gate sensors by
the formula
= 0 + 90 + 180 + ^270
4

(3) If a setting error ,, is more than 1, then eliminate it by turning the flux gate sensor
around its vertical axis, for this purpose doing the following:
() Open cover plate "Flux gate sensor" on the wing-tip fairing.
(b) Loosen the sensor fastening screws and turn the sensor to the error sign-opposite side
at the value of setting error. Monitor the sensor turning angle using the scake in the
sensor base.
(c) Tighten the sensor fastening screws.
C. Elimination of semi-circular deviation
(1) Set the aircraft heading values in successive order at 0 and 180 determined by means of
instrument -7 (EUS-7). Determine reading error (K) of correction mechanisms pointers
(main and additional) in each heading.
(2) Calculate the correction for elimination of semi-circular deviation ( ,. ) by the formula:

.. = 0 + 180
2
(3) At heading 180, by rotating shaft "~" in swing compensator -3 (main and
additional), and bring the swing till value of ., .Carry out monitoring by the pointer of
a relevant correction mechanism.
.
(4) Set the aircraft heading values in successive order at 90 and 270 determined by means of
instrument -7 (EUS-7) and calculate the correction for elimination of semi-circular deviation
as stated in Items (1) and (2).
