EASY STEPS ON HOW TO USE 1
OUR TRAVEL GUIDE When planning your trip in / into Namibia consult the zone map (p6-7)
to choose the zones that you want to visit. Consult the time table (fold
out at the back) to determine the time it takes to travel between the
different zones to ensure that you plan sufficient time to travel and
stop along the way (more information on p13). Remember, it’s not only
5 the destination but the journey between zones can be as fascinating
as the destinations. Consult the detailed map at the back to identify
the scenic routes between zones.
2
3 Investigate at which zones you want to overnight and the zones that
can be visited as en route stops. The “Famous for” at each zone will
provide useful information when making this decision.
3
A choice of accommodation establishments is given, ranging from
upmarket unique lodges to delightful guesthouses, pensions and
camping.
4
4
Each zone also provides you with information regarding visitor services
available, including activities on offer unique to a certain zone. Also
keep in mind the specialised excursions you want to do. Add 3-4 hours
for an average excursion.
2
5
For ease of reference the various establishments have been placed
on a zone map which are featured again on pages 582-605 in more
detail.

Bizarre rock formations, fantastic views, bushmen paintings, 7 fountains, a unique fauna and flora with
quiver trees and the very rare lythops (living stones) make Wüstenquell a special experience! Directly
bordering the Namib Naukluft Park, Wüstenquell with its famous Eagle Rock is the closest accommodation
to the Welwitschia plains and moonlandscape. A great stop-over on your way from or to Swakopmund;
direct access to the park and only 2 hours away.

"Get Close to Nature" Alte Kalköfen was constructed to conserve fauna and
flaura in their natural habitat, hence bringing the nature experience to guests whilst
maintaining the ecosystem, making us an eco-friendly lodge.
The lodge is built on a 20500 ha game farm. We offer you the following • Nature
drives • Nature walks and guided hiking trails • Bird and Game watching • Star
gazing • Lime stone oven visits • Cole Lithoparium and most important peace and
quiet. LISBON ROADHOUSE ON C14
We proudly host the biggest collection of Lithops in Namibia, and are also
the only place registered for growing these succulents. This is a very unique plant
that is mainly to be found in the south of Namibia. This is a must see for all tourists
making them more aware of the unique fauna in the south of Namibia.
The name of the lodge is derived from two old ovens situated near the lodge.
These ovens were used in earlier years to produce lime which was used in the
making of bricks. The first of the two ovens was constructed during the late 1800's.
The second oven ( a replica of the first ) was constructed during 1904-1908 and can
be clearly seen from the main road at the entrance of Alte Kalköfen.
Located in the heart of the south of Namibia on the dusty district road D462, Alte

If possible, avoid going out between dawn and dusk when mosquitoes
commonly bite. Wearing long sleeved dark colour clothing and
trousers is helpful. Sleeping under a mosquito net when mosquitoes
are active at night, especially between 20:00 and 06:00 is also
recommended. Nets treated with harmless insecticides will further
