SC quashes stay on Salmans conviction

Amit.Choudhary@timesgroup.com

New Delhi: In a setback to Salman

Khan, the Supreme Court on Wednesday quashed the stay on his conviction in
the blackbuck-hunting case in which he
was sentenced to five years in jail.
It referred the matter back to Rajasthan high court for fresh hearing.
Setting aside the HC order, the apex
court said the conviction could not be

him if the conviction was not stayed. The
HC had passed the order after Salman
pleaded that he wouldnt be able to get a

UK visa if his conviction was not stayed.

If some foreign country is not granting permission to visit the said country
on the ground that the respondent has
been convicted of an offence and has
been sentenced for five years of imprisonment under Indian law, the said order
cannot be a ground to stay the order of
conviction, the top court said.
A bench of Justices S J Mukhopadhaya

not shown any ground that irreversible
loss would be caused to the Dabangg star
if his conviction was not stayed and asked
it to consider the case afresh.
