Types of batteries
1.

You are provided with the following types of batteries.


Dry cell
Alkaline cell
Mercury cell
Lead-acid accumulator
Nickel cadmium cell
Determine the positive and negative terminals of each cell stated above and state
their uses.

2. There are other chemical cells like Nickel-metal hydride(NiMH), Lithium-ion(Liion), Lithium-polymer(Li-Poly),Fuel cells and solar cells. State the use of each
cell.

PCK 5
To determine the factors that cause rusting
Procedure:

Clean five iron nails using sand paper.


Put four of the iron nails into test tube A, B, C and D respectively
Pour enough water into test tube A to cover the iron nail and then stopper it.
Pour enough oil into test tube B to cover the iron nail and then stopper it.
Pour enough boiling water into test tube C to cover the iron nail, followed by
some oil to cover the hot water and then stopper it.
6. Do not pour any liquid into test tube D. Just stopper it.
7. Put about 2 cm high anhydrous calcium chloride into test tube E. Hang an iron
nail in it using a thin thread and then stopper it.
8. Observe the appearance of the iron nails in each of the test tubes after 1 week.
