CAUT staff have recently compiled and updated information about employee benefit premium
cost-sharing and paid maternity/parental leave benefits. Please find enclosed a draft summary
table of this information.
I would like to ask you to review the tables carefully to ensure they are accurate and complete.
Missing data are denoted by a dash. Please report corrections or additions at your earliest
convenience to Samantha Montgomery at montgomery@caut.ca or 613.820.2270 x195. Once
any changes have been made, we will send you the final version of the tables and post on the

Most, but not all, paid parental leave benefits are based upon assumed EI/QPIP contributions with a two-week waiting period (the 2 weeks are usually only covered for maternity
leave or parental leave, not both). At some institutions, employees who take the maximum length of paid pregnancy leave top-up benefits are ineligible for further paid parental
leave (denoted by an asterisk*). If both parents are employed by university, leave time is usually split between the two employees at their discretion. Most eligibility requirements
are based upon length of previous full-time employment at the university, which ranges from 13 weeks to a full year, while some universities require employees taking family
leave to return to work for at least a specified amount of time or they must re-pay the benefit.

caregiver taking paid paternity leave).
