Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex (Dubai Sports Complex) is a
multipurposestadiumcompletedin2010,launchedbySheikhHamdanBinMohammedbinRashidAl
Maktoum,CrownPrinceofDubaiandChairmanoftheDubaiExecutiveCouncil.IthostedtheFINA
World Swimming Championships 2010 (25 m), with participants from more than 130 countries,
whichheldforthefirsttimeinanArabcountry.Thestadiumwillhostinternationalaquaticevents.It
hastotalcapacityof15,000spectators.Besideaquaticevents,itwillalsoaccommodatedrysports
eventssuchasbasketball,volleyball,netball,badminton,socialandexhibitionevents.
ThisiconicprojectwasbuiltatanestimatedcostofAED1.1billion.

Scope
Dubai sports complex is one of the landmark projects in Gulf region. The innovative structure
revitalizedby FaulknerBrownsArchitectsandthemaincontractorforexecutingtheprojectisSaudi
BinLaden.

Dubai Aquatic centre, said to be the world's

best indoor aquatic facility, is the key element
ofthearenalocatedattheedgeofDubaiLand.
Thecentreisatwotiergoldenteardropshaped
facilitywithanOlympicstandard50metrepool
along with another 50metre pool with a
moveablefloor.
The project also includes changing rooms for
400athletes,roomsforumpiresandautomatic

control, a stadium that can accommodate 3,000

spectators,mainreceptionarea,VIPwaitingarea,
other waiting areas, multipurpose halls, health
club, gymnasium, training pools, external garden
with 100 trees, flower ponds, an open area for
exercises, number of restaurants, VIP car parking
area, public parking areas for 1,500 cars, and an
area for parking buses of clubs, schools, colleges
anduniversitiesandallotherservicefacilities.
