I Amsterdam
Beautiful squares, enigmatic history and well, the red light district, are only some of
the elements that make Amsterdam such an exciting city to visit. NIKI CHEONG cycled
around the city to soak in the scenery and took some photographs along the way.

Scattered around are
numerous stores by
local designers with
the most interesting
names among them
Tailorism and Sissy Boy
(nothing sissy about
the clothes, though).

HIGH-CLASS
MEDAN SELARA?:
This food court is
reknowned for its
amazing choices
of fresh meals but
is rather pricey.

ARE YOU REALLY?: Located at Museumplein, the square that joins


some of Amsterdam's most renowned museums, is a tribute to the
people of the town the I amsterdam monument-of-sorts.

WATER WORLD: One of the many canals that snake around the beautiful city.

SEX: Art works
like these appears
anonymously in
the red light district, believed to
be a tribute to the
city's sex industry.
COFFEE OR TEA?: Neither. The Dampkring is one of the most
well known coffee shops in Amsterdam where patrons visit
for some marijuana. It was also used as one of the shooting
locations for a scene in movie Ocean's 12.

HIDING PLACE: This is the home of famed Jewish diarist Anne Frank, located along
the Prinsengracht, where she hid from the Nazis for over two years. Her journey was
documented and released as a book The Diary of a Young Girl.

PINK TRIANGLES: Leave it to the liberal Dutch to build a


monument commemorating the lives of all the gay
men and women who have been persecuted because
of their sexuality. There are three parts to the monument, each in the shape of the pink triangle.
