Articles: a, an, the
1. We use the before a specific noun a noun that we already know about.
The is called a definite article.
Example:
They are in the kitchen. (we know which kitchen.)
The trees are in the garden. (we know which garden.)
2. We use a or an before a singular noun that is not specific. We do not know
much about it. A and an are called indefinite articles.
A comes before a consonant sound.
Examples:
There is a bike in the garden. (we dont know which bike it is.)
A dog is on the bus (we dont know which dog it is.)
An comes before a vowel sound.
Examples:
There is an apple on the table.
There is an oven in the kitchen.
