INTO St Georges, University of London is delighted
to offer an exclusive two-week Summer School for
international students who are considering applying
for an undergraduate degree in Medical, Biomedical
or Health Sciences in a UK university.

This session will provide an introduction to
the variety of careers available in Medicine
and related Health Sciences. You will also
be given a tour of St Georges Hospital and
Medical School.

first-hand experience of the medical

Aptitude Test (UKCAT)
visits to local and national attractions.

Ice-breaker games and activities.
Understanding the British a fun session
which will give an introduction to aspects of
British culture and language.

Life as a medical student including a


presentation by current students
You will also learn about the entry
requirements to study Medicine at university.
Lab sessions
You will get the opportunity to carry out
simple experiments in the Biomedical
Sciences department. You will find out about
relevant careers in this field and the entry
requirements to study Biomedical Sciences
at university.
Radiography workshop
You will learn about imaging and radiotherapy
by diagnosing medical conditions using real
x-rays and scans. You will also learn about the
entry requirements to study Radiography at
the University.
Physiotherapy workshop
Using three case studies, you will learn
about the three main areas of physiotherapy;
Neurological, Respiratory and Musculoskeletal.
You will also learn about the entry
requirements to study Physiotherapy
at the University.

Tuition fee
2,000 which includes accommodation,
breakfast and the social programme.
Also includes airport transfers.
The cost does not include air fares, lunch
and evening meals.

Entry requirements:
All students are required to have a good academic
record, and an interest in studying Medicine, Biomedical
or Health Sciences, and an IELTS score of 5.0 (in total
and each sub-set).
Minimum Age: 16

Introduction to Clinical Practice


You will rotate around three or four clinical
skill stations, including basic life support,
skeletons, reflexes and heart sounds.
Introduction to Surgery
You will be shown a video of a surgery
and talked through the procedure with
the opportunity to ask questions. You will
be taught how to suture and given the
opportunity to put these skills into practice.

About UKCAT
You will be introduced to the five components
of the UKCAT: verbal reasoning, quantitative
analysis, abstract reasoning, decision analysis,
and situational judgement. You will be given
some basic techniques for approaching each
section followed by mock questions on which
to practice.

Preparing for an interview


This session will cover common interview
questions and practice and what interviewers
are looking for. It will also include information
about the MMIs (Multi Mini Interview) and
the opportunity to take part in a mock MMI
session with feedback.

Horton Halls of Residence houses 486
students in self-catering single study/
bedroom units, each unit with its own ensuite facilities. It is only a short walk to local
supermarkets and shops. Horton Halls is only
15 minutes walk from the University campus.

London Eye

University-style lecture
You will experience a sample lecture on a
topic, which will be explored in more details
in the afternoon session.
Problem Based Learning (PBL)
You will work in groups on a clinical problem,
integrating theory and practice, and applying
knowledge and skills to develop a solution
to a defined problem.
The application process
You will receive guidance on the application
process for a UK university degree, including
a workshop on how to write a good
personal statement.

Single study bedroom with en suite bathroom

Clinical communication
The session will include a presentation
introducing the importance of communication
skills for healthcare professionals. Participants
will then have the opportunity to role-play a
GP consultation, with an actor playing the role
of a patient and participants as a GP.
Hunterian Museum
This museum, located within the Royal
College of Surgeons, covers of over 200 years
of surgery and goes into the techniques,
instruments, and educational aspects
of surgery.
